I went to the restaurant last Saturday night. It was already "late", after 21:00, considering that many kitchens in Austria close at 22:00. I went in and, by chance, a boy and a girl entered after me, evidently a couple. After not a few seconds (maybe 5 minutes) a girl arrived, a waitress, who finally gave us her attention, but she turned to the couple, not me, although I had arrived earlier. She told the couple that she only had one table and that she was already late but she could still eat. And she showed the whole group the way to the table. I didn't understand though, I don't speak German well, and the boyfriend of the couple directed me to sit with them. I could not understand if it was part of the custom that I had already seen in other restaurants in Austria, that is the unusual and not so pleasant custom for me to seat customers of different groups at the same table to save space, or if the waitress simply did not understand that I had nothing to do with the other two. The fact is that in the end I ate next to this couple. The restaurant defines itself as "Italian cuisine", but the pizza I ordered had neither the smell, nor the appearance, nor the taste of an Italian pizza. Yet the head waiter was Italian, and oh, had I understood it: during the service he entertained a couple of other Italians by telling aloud aspects of his life perhaps not entirely interesting for the rest of us (I hope that his son really be hired to play Bayern Muenchen, so that he can stop working). In any case, I realized that the waitress had absolutely not understood that I was not together with the couple (despite the obvious embarrassment of the three of us) when she finally asked us "zusammen oder getrennt?" (ie: single account or separate accounts?). I won't say anything else. Would I go there again? I would say I’m not! PS: Ah, I actually would like to say something else: the ménage for oil, vinegar, salt and pepper...
Read moreGood atmosphere, beware of food... We were visiting Innsbruck recently very last minute, so when we arrived it was late and we were trying to find something to eat. We trailed into the center of the city, passing several different spots that seemed good - but when we saw Orangerie, we were intrigued by the lightening and atmosphere it carried. It was orange and black, and appeared to have a romantic touch to it. When we went in, we were surprised to find on the first floor a fun bar which was also filled with a great deal of smoke! Finally! A place that has not been tainted by the liberal European mentality of anti-smoking in bars. I don't even smoke, but I was happy to see others doing just that...inside a public place! We went through another door, and made our way up the staircase to find a very clean, non-smoking restaurant with a lovely view of the street below. Candle-lit seating, fairly uncomfortable but stylish black and orange chairs, we sat down at the table nearest to the grand window overlooking the street by night.
We both had the weiner shnitzel, which was absolutely delicious - but we both got sick from it! I've had the same dish before, several times in my life, and have never been ill from it. I'd hate to judge all their food, but if both of us ordered the same thing, and we both got sick, I think that should be a cautionary warning. The beer was good, the waitress was very friendly and spoke English very well. The atmosphere was honestly the best part of the experience, and I noticed they had a buffet brunch on Sundays for only 12.50 euro per person. We didn't go back, I think in part because of the bad experience with the food the night before. But for tourists looking for somewhere to have a big breakfast on Sundays, that's probably a good place in terms of quantity and price.
I'm sure their other food isn't bad, but I definitely wouldn't order the weiner shnitzel...
Read moreOne star is too many stars. Me and my girlfriend went there for dinner. We were almost the only people in the restaurant and we were met by the most rude and unprofessional waitress ever. After trying to sit us in a place blatantly reserved for someone else, she took 10 minutes just to take our orders and came back 5 minutes later just to tell us that the onions we asked to be removed couldn't be removed by that specific dish. After another 10 minutes to take our new order, we had to wait for 30 more minutes for a salad and some spatzle which came respectively without any garnish (even salt or oil) and FULL of onion (it was literally the only thing I could taste). When my girlfriend asked for some olive oil to add to her salad she was ignored at first, and only when we almost shouted "excuse me" the waitress came and (snorting) brought her salt, pepper and pumpkin-seed oil, which made the salad completely uneatable. Also the absurd amount of onion in my dish (which I couldn't manage to finish eating because of said onion) gave me indigestion. And last but not least when we left the restaurant complaining, neither the waitress or anyone else in the staff, felt like saying sorry or at least trying to look saddened.
We will never go back there, and neither should you if you don't want to pay high prices for terrible food and service. Starving would be a much...
