Similar to Berlin’s Five Elephant and London’s Grind, Salzburg’s 220 Grad opened its new spot transforming a small industry building to a poetic combination of nostalgia and modernism. It is not only a heaven for coffee lovers, but also a big treatment for architecture nerds. The only pity was my friend and I didn’t get to enjoy the little courtyard with a pond, it looked so nice.
Hidden behind the hill hosted the famous castle on top, this location probably serves more locals than tourists with caffeinated options, food and baked stuff. I was told they do very good cakes, sadly my stomach didn’t have enough space for that.
It was a very warm and sunny day when we visited so I unsurprisingly ordered cold brew. I suspect it’s brewed in a more concentrated manner so it’s served with ice cubes. The chocolate tasty dominated the sip while a subtle fruity flavour slided in afterward, more a traditional approach to interpret the third wave coffee fashion, probably not as hipstery as Berlin but still really good.
I will definitely come back when I visit Salzburg next time, it’s an extraordinary place to spend a...
Read moreIn knowing 220Grad as a local roaster, I was pleasantly glad they opened up proper shop (in addition to one in altstadt).
The goods: ambience and even decor such as their glassware/cups service quality of coffee and food
The bads: prices are slightly higher than quality seating is confusing upon arrival as it's essentially first come first serve paying bills is probably worst as you pay at entrance counter, where any server could tell you the total. If pay w/ credit card, you'd pay then receive the itemized bill, and it's only then you can tell if server got the correct bill for you. For me, I've experience 2x a wrong bill :(
Recommendation for 220Grad, improve seating assignment and payment workflow. That said, keep up the great work on food and beverages.
Lastly, consider opening on Sunday as your Saturday service seems quite full (even now winter...
Read moreThis place is phenomenal! I had some of the best oatmeal I've ever had. One of our kids had a cold dish - can't recall its name and I can't find a menu online, but I think it was muesli - and it was equally fabulous. And being first and foremost coffee roasters, the coffee needless to say is perfection. A bit spendy, but well worth it. When I got the menu from our server, given at my age I had to hold the menu at a distance, she reached under the counter immediately and handed me some reading glasses! I laughed (and then sobbed b/c I need reading glasses!), but thanked her for the kind gesture. The food and atmosphere are top notch - you won't be...
