There was no reply for our email reservation, so we just came and ask for a table for two. The older waiter was very kind and didn’t send us away but asked if we will wait by the bar. We said yes and waited for a table. The other waiter took our order and they brought a soup in one bowl and two spoons to a bar. We were schocked, because it was freezing by the window at the bar and we didn’t have a separate plates nor a table. So we had to eat standing at a bar, freezing. Soup was excellent. Main dish was good but we found two pieces of hair in both main dishes. We asked for a table like three times. They said that there are teenagers drinking and that’s why they don’t have free tables. Then we saw two empty tables. We asked a waiter if we can move, he said no. Then that first older waiter came and offered us a table. We changed four waitors. They asked us four times about the dessert. First, they didn’t bring me salad because the waitor said it would be too much and after a main dish they asked about a dessert too many times. In the end, we took a desert. It was really good, soup also, home beer also. Main dish not so much. Hair in the dish is not acceptable. In the end the most annoing waiter changed our receipt with other so we already payed end left to the stairs out of the restaurant and he opend the door so strongly that he almost hit me, didn’t apologize just said he mixed receipts. So we fixed it payed and left. This place is beautiful but some people are very friendly some of them ars not. There should be one waiter for a table. We appreciate they didn’t send us away, but don’t serve soup at the bar. It is better to say that you don’t have free tables than to do this. I would come again in few years to check a garden and see this authentic place but I hope the service will be better. Thanks for all the good things. For bad things you should make customer happier and apologize. Give the last drink on a house or something like that. If you mix your orders and receipts, don’t follow your customers...
Read moreReally an odd experience. Yes, I’m American and don’t speak German, but I consider myself well-travelled and culturally aware. We walked in for a reservation at 9pm, and were told that the “power was out,” that the kitchen couldn’t cook, and that we might have to settle for beer or that we could wait a bit and see if the power turned on if we desired. Mind you, the lights were still on, so I assumed only the circuit in the kitchen went out. This seemed plausible because we did see some people on the ground floor crowded around an electrical panel, so I cordially said “we can wait a bit and have some beer if it’s no problem.”
Now I’m accustomed to German speakers being direct. If there was a problem I expect to be told. But we were told “no, no there is no problem. Maybe you will have a problem in 30 minutes if the power isn’t back on.” I, of course, took this as a joke, and we sat down.
After sitting with the menu for ~15 minutes, I waved the waitress over to order beer, and after taking our orders (my partner ordered wine,) she came back to tell us that she couldn’t pour us beer or wine because the power was out.
Now I’ve heard of an electric stove and I imagine that the kitchen might have a hard time cooking without light. But I’ve never heard of an electric beer tap! Or an electric wine bottle. Mind you, the lights were on over the bar. It became pretty clear after this that these people were looking for an excuse to not serve us, and we left shortly after.
Really unexpectedly inhospitable and dishonest behavior, and not in line with what I would expect of Salzburg, or people in Austria in general. But hey, ambiance was cool. Anyways, I suggest you take your business elsewhere, unless you want to gamble. As you can see, plenty of other (German and non-German) people have good...
Read moreIn only leave reviews when restaurants deserve it, so here goes! What an amazing place, especially for these prices! They have a very cosy inside dining place and a beer garten that feels like a hidden gem in the city that only locals know. As a tourist this was a very welcoming experience in Salzburg. I sat outside to have dinner and some beers, very friendly staff, very quick service, and frequent check-ins if everything's alright. The atmosphere was great, even while being here alone I felt accompanied. As someone that is not very familiar with Austrian cuisine, I could still feel that I hit bullseye with my restaurant choice. The pork roast with beer sauce genuinely felt like the most authentic meal I've had so far on my travels! Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Austria, and might come back to try the Schnitzel this...
