As someone who never complains nor has ever written a bad review, I strongly advise against staying at this hotel.
While the location is undeniably convenient, the hotel itself feels as dull and lifeless as something out of the Soviet era. The rooms are tiny, dreary, and far from inviting—making it impossible to relax, especially during a holiday like Christmas Eve when everything else is closed.
The staff were polite and tried to assist, but it was clear that poor management has let them down. My main issue was the non-existent internet, which is unacceptable in 2024, particularly for someone like me who runs a business and relies on reliable Wi-Fi to work. Heaven forbid my wife and I want to FaceTime our families on Christmas! Frequent dropouts made browsing impossible, and despite multiple complaints, I was told there was nothing they could do. They offered a room next door as a solution, but the internet was just as bad there.
I informed the reception that we’d be leaving early due to the internet issues, but in good faith, I offered to pay for an additional night. Unfortunately, management decided to exploit the situation, forcing us to pay for four extra nights instead of acknowledging their failure to provide basic advertised services. As a small business owner, I would be embarrassed and would never charge a client for a service I couldn’t deliver, yet this hotel seemed perfectly comfortable doing so.
Adding to the frustration, services listed on Booking.com, such as washing and dry cleaning for a fee, were unavailable. Instead, we were told to use a laundromat, a completely misleading and inconvenient experience.
This hotel epitomises poor customer service and mismanagement. I cannot recommend it to anyone, and I regret choosing it for my stay. Save yourself the trouble and...

We stayed 5 nights in a Economy double room and it was very nicely decorated and felt modern, the room was small but for just the two of us and only for sleeping in, it was a good size. The room has a double window which we found useful as it helps to block out the noise from the street below, which is usually quiet but one evening one of the restaurants down the road seemed to get quite loud with people and music, but once both windows were closed we could barely hear it were able to sleep with no problems. There was no air conditioning but there was a tower fan in the room.
All staff we encountered spoke very good English and were very polite and helpful, it was always a joy to see the staff when they greeted you on your way out and when you returned. Breakfast was always very good, fresh, constantly topped up and a wide variety of different options to choose from. I always enjoyed the leaflet they leave you on the table, giving you the weather forecast for the day and tips on places to visit and where to eat.
Reception closed at 9pm but there was another entrance you can use with your room key to let you in, so getting back late after enjoying the local nightlife if not a problem. The hotel also has a lift.
The hotel, situated in the old quarter, is in a great location. The Fortress is right on their doorstep and other main attractions are no more than 15-20 min walk. Train station is a 30 min walk and there are bus stops just down the road or over the bridge if going in the other direction. You can also buy the Salzburg card from reception with cash or card, this was amazing to have and highly recommend this as well.
We will definitely stay here again, if we’re ever lucky enough to come back...
