I had a horrible experience at this cafe. I went in on my own for a hot drink and some strudel. From the start it was obvious other tables were being served in preference to me and I was being ignored. I waited around 15 mins for a menu in English. When it came to pay I waited 20 minutes, all the while watching other tables being served in preference. Eventually I stood and told the waitress I was leaving and asked if I could pay at the till. She said yes. I went to do so and was greeted by a truly horrible man who said “you pay the server, get it”. I tried to explain and he said “yeah yeah” and waved his hand at me. It turned out this man is the owner. Other reviews will back me up on his rudeness. I really don’t say this lightly but I honestly think they just do not like English speakers. All other customers at the time seemed to speak German. Shame on them if so and either way shame on the owner. If you’re reading this your behaviour was disgusting as it seems it has been previously with other customers. I’d be absolutely mortified to read such things about myself. Maybe you can reflect and stop being so awful and condescending. You seem to be compensating for something.

Ps. I really have no idea what your reply is meant to mean as I hadn’t mentioned age. As it happens though I am referring to the older gentleman stood behind the counter wearing the questionable denim outfit. I asked if he was the owner (shortly after he spoke to me like dirt) and you all said yes. Your replies to reviews are quite bizarre and seem to support what many of your customers are saying about your manner. Anyway good luck to you all, I wish you the days...

The service was awful and the food was not great. The lady I spoke to when I initially walked in was nice but the waitress was exceptionally rude and gave a very condescending response when I asked if she spoke English. Despite saying she spoke English, she continued to speak to me in German. I appreciate that it’s a German speaking country and if speaking English is an issue then just say so and people can go and find a more suitable and accommodating place to eat. The coffee was admittedly very good. The strudel was not good at all. It was very dense and the pastry was soggy. There were more chunks of heavy pastry inside than pieces of apple. The custard was good however I wanted ice cream. Upon observing the waitress while I waited and waited and waited to get my bill (she ignored me every time I tried to get her attention until I literally waved my arm in the air and shouted hello) it seemed that the waitress was being very friendly and conversational to German speakers and the opposite to non-German speakers. I speak English, French and Italian (and a small amount of Mandarin) but was treated like I was some sort of idiot here. An awful experience - do not bother to give them your custom. Spend your money elsewhere for better service and...

Previous reviewer is right, if you don't want to be in a bad mood, avoid this cafe.

I walked in with my mum and was ignored for all the while until he had no choice but to acknowledge our presence because there was no space for him to walk. I politely asked if he spoke English in German and he answered defensively "why not." staring at me without a smile. There were 4 tables occupied and one corner disabled table free, the whole back part and upstairs was empty and closed. I asked if we could sit at the corner table and he said that "no it's closed, can't you see it's full." all the while talking with no eye contact.

I was recommended this cafe by a friend who visited before if not I wouldn't have come here. I debated with myself to just buy the Mozartballs back since there were no seats but the whole experience left such a bad taste in my mouth i decided that nothing can be that delicious if it stemmed from such negativity and rudeness.

Thank goodness I left! I found Cafe Bazar and it was an absolute heaven of an experience, authentic traditional coffeehouse with locals reading the paper, excellent service and great coffee and...

This review is not so much of the café itself but for the famous Salzburger Nockerl (that you can find in other traditional Austrian cafés and restaurants). TLDR; save your money and try something else. It is supposed to be a soufflé I believe, with a jam at the base, but it is too eggy and too sweet. There is also a layer of butter at the base. Can you imagine the taste of egg + butter + jam + sugar? I am not sure if that is how it is supposed to be or mine was just not cooked properly. Don't get me wrong; I love desserts and have eaten meringue and soufflé many times but never had an issue with the taste of egg lingering. For the price, I would rather spend on something else. If you still want to try, note that the serving is good for 3-4 persons, or even 5 if you just want to have a spoon or two. It is light and can certainly be finished by one person (if it tastes good), but unfortunately, with that strange eggy taste, certainly not for one. Otherwise, as I said, save your money! Service was ok. The ladies serving dine in customers were not exactly welcoming or friendly but not rude.

Last-Day Dessert Quest: Salzburg Edition I was on a mission—a sugar scavenger hunt in Salzburg before heading out. The cake counter looked like an art exhibit curated by dessert-loving cryptographers: absolutely no labels. I wandered like a lost confectionery pilgrim, until finally—glowing faintly at the counter’s far end like it had descended from the cocoa gods—the Chocolate Brownie Heaven Cake. The lovely lady behind the counter saw the wild hunger in my eyes and whispered like a chocolatier oracle: “Vanilla ice cream and Schlag…BOOGERS!” (I assume she meant Schlagobers—aka whipped cream—but honestly, by that point I would’ve gladly eaten whipped anything.) I complied. Bravely. Heroically. One bite and I ascended. Time stopped. My soul did a backflip into chocolate nirvana. I returned to my hotel, curled into a blissful brownie coma for one divine hour, dreaming of cocoa clouds and whipped cream waterfalls. Next visit? I’m skipping Mozart and heading straight for dessert. 10/10 would booger again.

An elegant restaurant providing quality food and a good vibe. The staff is friendly and English menu is provided. The breakfast set with cheese, ham and salad served on an afternoon tea platter, just like a deluxe tea set. However, don't get distracted as the spotlights should be on Salzburg Nockerl and Kaiserschmarrn mit Preiselbeermarmelade, which are huge souffle with cranberry jam at the bottom and pancakes with cranberry jam respectively. My friends and I had an argument on which one is better and the result was a draw. I will recommend Salzburg Nockerl to social media lovers as you will definitely post it on your IG story. But deep down in my heart, Kaiserschmarrn mit Preiselbeermarmelade is the true love. Never underestimate the great the pancakes are. They are not simply made of flour, you can feel the presence of eggs from the pancakes. Together with the jam, it is up to another level. If you don't like sweets in the morning, have a try in tea time.
