I loved staying in the seminary during my recent visit to salzburg; it felt very different to staying in a typical hotel. The building is stunning and it was lovely to wake up to the sound of church bells and walk through the beautiful courtyard every day. The location could not be better - a short walk from both the old town and the train station. It was also only a 1 min walk from the departure point of many local tours (eg sound of music, eagles nest). ||I stayed in a double room, which was spotlessly clean and had lots of space. Small pots of homemade jam left on the bed as a welcome gift was a nice touch. There are communal kitchen spaces which means you don’t necessarily have to eat out every night. The only downside was that the room backed on to a busy street with many restaurants. At night it was extremely noisy until around 1am. The windows did keep the noise out, however it was very warm weather and there is no air conditioning so the windows had to be open. Thankfully earplugs were provided. ||The breakfast was a bit limited compared to other places I have stayed in Austria but what was available was delicious. It was also nice to be able to eat it in the courtyard. ||Overall, I highly recommend this as a place to stay in Salzburg. It is a great location and somewhere that provides a bit of a different experience. It is a bit basic but doesn’t pretend to be otherwise and is really excellent value for money. I will...
Read moreQuiet repose, arriving between 2-4pm the massive door opens automatically. The building is beautiful, in town, and a 8 minute walk up from the Sound of Music 🎶 and Hallstatt all-day tour. Also, I was just about across the road 5 minutes from Mirabell Park, which is sumptuous. After reception hours, the key opens the door. Arriving at other times has different instructions.
Check in and pay the balance, choosing Euros because USD will cost you more on your card. You are warmly welcomed and guided to your room. My key was traditional and solid.
My room was spacious, pristine, bright, and comfortable with a personal bathroom and shower. Very modern. There's a wall heater for winter. The window is double pane, both open inwards. I had a fan which was not needed. Be ready for all sorts of weather in August.
I appreciate all the little details, electric tea pot, assorted tea, and cute jam. Feeling at home, quiet, comfortable bed, in for a good night's sleep.
Breakfast was over the top. Fresh made, the best inclusive buffet I've enjoyed in a long time. There's lots of seating with 3 rooms and some tables outside.
Book your stay well ahead. I loved coming home to the blessing of a peaceful courtyard. 1st floor has a small seated atrium for reflection. My room faced the cafe pedestrian alley. There are lots of places to eat as a...
Read moreUnlike many other reviewers, I understood perfectly well when booking that this is not a hotel, it is a seminary building which has been in part repurposed for commercial accommodation. It’s a guesthouse, and as such I had no expectations of fridges in the room, televisions, or a daily restocking of tea as some have complained about not having. I also knew that it was in the centre of town, next to two restaurant/bar areas and that there would be noise. It baffles me that these things bother people who admit to knowing them before making the booking, and then still go ahead and mark the place down on stars. There are other benefits, such as several common areas that could be used for guests to work at, or meet up with other guests, there is a wonderful courtyard with tables and chairs to allow you to enjoy the outdoors. The breakfast was generous and very good. The staff were knowledgeable and friendly. The location is excellent. For those guests who are Catholic there is the opportunity to visit and pray in the seminary chapel.||The one thing I do think was missing from the rooms is an armchair.||I will definitely return (if the price remains where it is, even with all of its advantages, I do think it’s a tad expensive for a...
