This was a very nice place to visit in Vienna. The reviews looked great, so I had to try it out! I went early as I visited on Saturday evening and heard this place can be crowded. I’m glad I did! I arrived around 17:45.
Food: As I had my full of goulash and schnitzel during my stay in Vienna, I wanted something different. The reviews said the pork ribs and pretzel were good so I went with that. The pretzel was brought out quickly with my beer (see below), and it was warm and soft. Really nice! Strongly recommended! The ribs came a bit later (but not too long, maybe only 10 minutes after ordering). Working from the broad end to the tapered end, the ribs went from soft and tender to more tough. I recommend to go in the opposite direction to ensure you end up with the tender part! I learned my lesson. The taste was really delicious. I got the 1/2 slab, and that was more than enough for me. Not sure how anyone could eat the full slab without sharing. 😂
Beer: I had two beers, the Helles and the Marzen. Both were great. A lot of people talked about the chilli beer, but that just didn’t get my attention. 😉🍺
Service: it was fine, but as they were busy, don’t expect a lot of attention. But when they did come to my table, they were very polite. English was not a problem at all.
Environment: it’s really large but gets really crowded, so I recommend to make a reservation before going to bed safe. It’s in a nice area of Vienna, so it’s great to walk off the calories after your meal. 😅
Altogether, a great place that I would...
Read moreI have to write a terrible review on this restaurant. I have been wandering through wienna city center for quite a while looking for a restaurant, that is open and has a free table. I finally find one, this particularly, and I get greeted by a skinny, blonde dude with a caserol-like haircut. I ask him, if he has a table for two, he asks me if I want to sit for a dinner. I respond with "You mean lunch right" and he says yeah ofcourse. So he walks me and my (now ex) girlfriend to a table in the middle of every other customer, the table had things on of those other customers and it was very tight. So I asked him if we could get different table, since I have seen that there were like 40 other free tables, so he pointed me right to the next closest one that was still in a very crowded space. I asked him, why cant we just sit at a table over there (like 5m away), since there was nobody and it was not crowded. He looked me in the eyes and very boldly said: "You have a table right here, what else do you want". I immediately went away, because this is the worst attitude you could get from a waiter, thats supposed to take care of your food. Terrible experience, will...
Read moreFancy a beer, especially on a hot summers day? Vienna has a couple of breweries relatively close to the centre, and the best one by far is the 7Star Bräu.
When you enter, it opens to a big cavernous space around the brewing vat. As you continue to go through up a set of stairs, you come to a courtyard shaded by trees - perfect setting for the summer.
7Stern Bräu offer a typical Austrian cuisine consisting of schnitzel, Gebackene Händl (breadcrumbs encrusted chicken leg), Käsespätzle (cheesy noodles) amongst other things. Top recommendation: Gebackene Händl was super juicy as it uses the leg as opposed to a chicken breast and the crust on this one was nice and thick which gave it that extra crunch. Even better was the fact that it was deboned! It was served with a portion of potato and cucumber salad. The veggie option was Gebackene Emmental (baked cheese in breadcrumbs) which the children enjoyed.
The attending staff were super friendly, accommodating to the children’s need and humours despite the heat and the amount of people.
This is certainly a good place to eat and drink low key, and also, it’s quite cheap for...
