We enjoyed our family vacation here in Vienna in July 2024. This was our final stay in Europe, after Berlin and Prague. We went with our family of four, including two adult kids. We stayed in a two bedroom suite. The lower bedroom had a king bed, and the upper bedroom had two twins. There was a bathroom downstairs and upstairs.
One very negative thing was that we had ants crawling all in the bathroom and in the little closet where the fridge was. I notified the front desk, and they said they would take care of it. However, the ants persisted for the first three days we were there.
I think it's best to rate the hotel according to what I feel is important, so here goes:
Air conditioning: 3/10. (Worked, but didn't get cold enough, according to our liking, although we kept the A/C at its lowest setting all the time. At night, I was in bed for a couple of hours, waiting for the room to get cool enough before I could get to sleep.)
Bed: 9/10 (We had a very comfortable king-sized bed in our room.)
Coffee: 1/10 (No coffee maker in room!?! They had a device to boil water, and they provided instant coffee. Totally unacceptable, in my opinion.)
Breakfast: 8/10 (Breakfast buffet was included with our stay. They offered freshly-made omelets, with the limited options of cheese and/or ham (no onions, mushrooms, chives, or anything else). While this buffet was not as good or as extensive as our hotel in Berlin, it was quite acceptable. Coffee here was just okay, but not great. At least we could get decent coffee here, while, in the room, instant was the only option.)
Location: 9/10 (Located near many sites we wanted to see. Many restaurants, souvenir shops just a 3-5 minute walk away from the hotel. Also, a good-sized grocery store within five minutes. St. Stephens Cathedral was a two-minute walk.)
Shower/Bathroom: 3/10: (I would have given the bathroom a much higher rating, but there was no way to take a shower without getting the floor extremely wet. The tub/shower combination had a partial glass door. Water seeped through the bottom of the door I think, in great quantities. The floor mat was completely saturated after a shower, and there was an additional pool of water in the floor every time. Also, the bathroom had a strange odor for the full time of our stay. Otherwise, the shower worked great and the bathroom was excellent.)
Room itself: 7/10 (Room just wasn't very large with the king-sized bed in there, and seemed crowded with the little table and two chairs as well. Our window view was disappointing, as all we could see was the roof of the courtyard. Not much space between the foot of the bed and the wall. But this was not a very big deal, as we didn't spend a lot of time in our room. As noted above, the bed was very comfy. Very nice walk-in closet. )
Front Desk: 10/10 (Everyone was nice...
Read moreWe stayed for 7 nights, and upgraded our room to a Junior Suite to have more space over an extended stay. The suite was clean and very large, with a spacious sitting area, lot of storage space and a huge bathroom, The bathroom had a walk in shower, soaking tub, large sink/vanity area, heated towel rack, toilet & bidet, and a separate small room with an additional toilet and small sink. The hotel is located directly behind St. Stephan's Cathedral and is in a central location for restaurants, shopping, sightseeing, etc. In spite of being centrally located, it is on a quiet street and we did not notice any noise, including on New Years Eve. We used the subway every day we were there, and the St. Stephan's subway stop is across from the cathedral and very convenient to the hotel. The hotel restaurant only served breakfast, but breakfast was delicious with a good variety of eggs, meats, cheeses, cereals/granola, vegetables, juices, coffee/tea, breads, pastries, etc. The reception and breakfast staff were very polite and helpful. There is a lounge/bar area in the hotel, across from the reception desk. The hotel is a short walk (and a very short cab ride if you are old and have luggage) from the Wien Mitte train station, where you can catch the CAT train to the airport. We also stayed at the Hotel Konig von Ungarn in 2013. We loved it so much we said we would stay there again if we ever got back to Vienna. We were not...
Read moreThe central location of this hotel made it an ideal choice for us so that we could easily walk to many of Vienna's fine and impressive attractions. It is located a few meters behind the city centre cathedral, so you could hardly choose a better location. The underground station was just a short walk away if you needed to travel away from the city centre. The hotel dates from the late 18th century and has been modified and upgraded over the years. Our room was clean and very spacious, the bed super comfy and the bathroom spotlessly clean. The nightly 'Mozart' chocolate on our pillows was a lovely and tasty touch. The room safe was spacious enough for travel documents, iPads, cameras and phones etc, and this gave us peace of mind. The breakfasts provided a variety of options and the waiters were efficient, attentive and very friendly. The covered central courtyard of the hotel is tastefully decorated and furnished and has a couple of tall tress growing. Mozart once lived in the building adjacent to the hotel (now a museum) and is the only one of Mozart’s apartments in Vienna that still exists today. It is said that he frequented this hotel. The hotel oozes charm and character and the corridor walls display copies of many reviews and customer comments by famous guests from years ago. We would be more than happy to stay here again and we readily...
