Beautiful little cafe, we popped in because my husband wanted a coffee and I wanted something sweet. The desserts on display looked beautiful but weren't labelled and the menu didn't list them. I asked our server, Anton, what they were and he wouldn't help because there were too many for him to list. So went over and looked and chose apple strudel with vanilla sauce. When it came, it was cold -- not room temperature, but ice cold -- with no vanilla sauce. Since our server already was quite hostile towards us, I didn't want to complain, so I just ate it. I noticed him having conflict with other patrons and confront them about not tipping (I'm guessing because his service is miserable). He was just staring them down and furious, talking with other staff and gesturing at the two women and then shouted at them about not leaving a tip when they did leave. When we were finally able to get his attention for the bill, he said "tip is not included in Austria, what would you like to include," and we said that we were not happy with the service so weren't going to add anything. He was of course very upset and said he considered this a lack of respect, but he treated us rudely from the moment we walked in. Don't we too deserve respect? I didn't get what I ordered, he didn't provide any additional service besides passing us the wrong item. His aggression towards the other customers made for an uncomfortable experience for all around. He was incredibly rude. It's a lovely cafe but I have a hard time imagining the management doesn't realize what a jerk Anton is, given that he had conflict with two sets of customers in a 30 minute span. I noticed afterwards that on the receipt, it says in German, "thank you for visiting" and then in English, directly under, so that it seems like it might be a translation -- "tip is not included." So I suspect the management is in on this type of treatment of foreigners.

⭐ 1/5 — Shockingly rude service, pressured to double tip, and kicked out with kids in tow Looking through other reviews after our visit, I realized that we're not the only ones who’ve had this kind of experience at Café Diglas Wollzeile. Other reviewers have described the same kind of treatment, the same tactics, the same behavior from the staff, so hardly an isolated slip-up. First, when the bill arrived, the waiter Mario told us that the dessert wasn’t included and had to be added manually. He wrote it in and asked if it was okay to pay it as an extra. I agreed - only to discover after leaving that the dessert was, in fact, already included in the printed total. So we were double-charged. Not great, but it gets worse. I still added a tip, but the waiter immediately pushed for more, saying: “Is it okay if we top up the tip? One for the kitchen too,” and before I could answer, he started processing the higher amount on the card machine. I politely said No - that I believe people should be free to choose how much they tip. That’s when things turned ugly. He turned rude fast, saying things like “Really, lady? Are you seriously doing this?” and even pulled the “I have a family to feed” line. After further outbursts, I asked him to remove the tip altogether, which he (grudgingly) did. But even then, as I was dressing my kids at the table, he told us to vacate immediately because “there are people waiting, and he hopes to make more money off the next table.” Classy. Dear Diglas management: Is this your idea of service - shaking down customers for extra tips and throwing families out before they even leave the table? Hands down, the most memorably rude experience I’ve had in Vienna so far. Definitely not coming back.

Uncomfortable dining experience The cafe was stuffed, and we were waiting to be seated. As we were standing they directed us to two options; one right in front of the toilet entrance, another side next to the other tables, one in between 2 sides of the tables literally in the way. Both options are in the middle of the aisle, which are absolutely unideal. We took the second option, yet within 2 minutes, we still asked for another table if possible. As the distance from ours to another table was less than a meter away, waiters constantly twisted and turned themselves to get through the room. It felt like the sauce from the dishes would be split onto us, or the sliverware would have dropped anytime soon. We changed to a new location, which was better. However, throughout my time there, I felt constantly judged. The food was okay, Käsespätzle is good. The salad came with it absolutely tasteless. The dressing was pre-mixed, Ionly tasted oil. The salad wasn't fresh, a bit brown, and oxidized. The waiters walked through my table since it was in an intersection location of the cafe, and many customers came in and out. The waiters weren't checking my table, but more of personal stuff, like appearance and outfits, and it was extremely uncomfortable. I felt their stares, and that distrubed my time in there. I felt treated differently as we were foreigners speaking in a different language with each other. The waiter pressured at tipping when we were paying, which is not a good experience at all. The Menu they gave was in several different languages, which could be helpful. However, if they fail to internationalize the culture, it won't help much. I won't recommend anyone...
