Writing this review not even fifteen minutes after leaving this restaurant. Bottom line, decent food, terrible experience, rude staff, would not recommend. My friend and I had a long layover, so decided to come downtown for a traditional lunch and we’re excited to find this restaurant! We walked in, and were guided to our table, where we hung up our coats and small carry ons (See pictures). After some pointing by the staff, a member came over and asked us to move our coats and bags to two other coat hooks next to our table, which we happily did. However, we noticed more pointing and staring in our direction by members of the staff and an older woman, who we assumed to be the owner or manager. All very confusing. This was all happening while only two other tables were filled in our room at the restaurant, and we counted 32 open coat hooks. We still had not complained, or said anything. Separately, my friend ordered the house aperitivo, and it came less than half full, and looked like it had been sloshed around or spilled (see picture). Yet, we still didn’t say anything. We both ordered the pork schnitzel, which I definitely had, but my friend’s looked totally different from mine – different texture, breading, and darker meat. She was happy to eat it, but just wanted to let them know that they had brought the wrong schnitzel. They were adamant that they did not, despite the two looking completely different. We still didn’t even make this an issue. The final straw was when we were getting up to leave, members of the staff again were pointing at us and our coats from around the corner. At this point, we were frustrated at being pointed at during the entire course of our meal, so we went up to the staff and asked if there was a problem, to which they told us no, and to not worry about it. The entire experience was very uncomfortable and made us feel like a burden to the restaurant, so we do not recommend coming here. Together we had two coats and two bags, one of each per person, none of which were blocking the empty table behind us. We were dressed nice, in skirts and sweaters. So just can’t figure out what about us was so...

While the atmosphere was lovely and gave a feeling of traditional setting, the food more than disappointed. Since we were with friends to celebrate a birthday and they suggested this place, we didn't want to bring up our frustration then. We didn't want to put them in a uncomfortable spot.

The risotto was more than al dente, lukewarm and tasted boring. The trout was tasty, but was lukewarm. My mom's vegan erdapfelgulash contained o a few potatoes, some veggie, tasteless and the portion was tiny. Good thing my 80 year mom doesn't eat a lot lately.

The Kaiserschmarn for €15.90 was the smallest portion i have ever seen. I grew up near Salzburg, I have seen a schmarrn or 2, but this one contained 3 small pieces and was lukewarm. At least they offered a complimentary extra 3 pieces....

When we wanted to pay and split our share, we had to get up and go to the cashier. Not only was she not able to split the cost, but we had to indicate what each of us had. Asking €4.50 couvert per person for 4 slices of bread total for 5 people is a unheard of. Chargingfor water with a €380 bill, really?

Overall a huge disappointment. I would not ever recommend this overpriced and underwhelming place, especially as it was accompanied with arrogant service. Not the girl, but the man.

On the door a Michelin sign.... I am much in the food scene and this place definitely is way far away from a culinary best, especially at the cost. 👎 And maybe consider adding maybe 1 or 2 more options for plant forward...

I wouldn't recommend this place. The staff tries to scam you by lying and trying to give you as many additional stuff as possible, which you have to pay extra for. When entering they tell you there's only room in the piano room. This is often not the case as there is plenty of room and you have to pay a fee for the piano music, which they won't tell you about. The atmosphere is very nice and traditional to Austria. When you're seated they will put pumpkin seeds, bread and water on the table, all of those are not free. The menu is very limited. There's not much choice, but they do have some nice traditional meals. They prepare your meal almost too quick. This can be a good thing when you are in a hurry, but this got me doubting the quality of the food. Speaking of which, the food is mediocre and expensive (see the picture for prices) . I had a Wiener Schnitzel and that was the only thing on my plate. In most restaurants you get an additional salad of fries (for free) with your schnitzel. The staff was quite friendly, although they gave me an ugly look when I told them I didn't want to pay for the piano as they didn't even give me a choice. So I was seated at the table I initially wanted to sit at, but they told me it was reserved. When paying I had to pay an additional fee because I payed with card. In conclusion, the restaurant staff are a bunch of lying scammers in my opinion and the restaurant can be compared to an expensive McDonald's. Don't go here, unless you like...

This restaurant was just across the street from our hotel in Vienna and since it had a good reputation is was an obvious option for dinner one night. "Zum weißen Rauchfangkehrer" translates to 'The White Chimneysweep' and there is a nice story behind the name of this restaurant... It is said that a chimney sweep used to date a girl that worked in the bakers, (or maybe it was the bakers daughter), and they used to cuddle out the back of the bakers and hence the normally black with soot chimneysweep was turned white with flour from his antics in the bakery... This is how the restaurant got its name. The restaurant has a nice ambience and the waiter had a sense of humour. We were sat in the window seat right next to the restaurants main entrance and to be honest it was rather cold here as people kept coming in and the door took a while to close letting the freezing November wind in... So if dining here in Winter ask not to have the table by the door! The menu had lots of traditional 'regional' cuisine and the Leberkas (Sausage) and Erbsen-Selleriesuppe (Pea Soup) we had to start were both tasty. We then had the Pork Schnitzel for main which was again very good (€25.90). I had Appel Strudel for dessert which was again very good and my wife had a liquor coffee. All in all we enjoyed our meal very much and would recommend anyone to dine here if wanting Austrian cuisine. Our bill came to €126
