I visited the Bahamas from Trinidad and went to the cricket club for breakfast on Sunday 3rd July, 2022. The food was great, compliments to the chef - I had the chicken souse. The reason for the lower rating is the rude waitress. When we arrived, the restaurant was busy so understandably, the waitress was busy. We waited a while after which the she told us to sit anywhere. It took about 15 minutes for her to bring a menu. When she came to take the order, we had some questions since we are not accustomed to the Bahamian cuisine. The waitress seemed a bit annoyed to answer the questions, but we were still understanding, saying that she is probably waiting alot of tables. After completing our meal, we waited about 30 minutes, the waitress never came to check on us to see if everything was OK or if we wanted the bill. I was able to say "can i have 2 boxes please" while she was passing the table. She never stopped to hear what i was saying, she instead looked back at me while walking away. Still waiting on some service, we decided to walk inside to the counter, wondering if the procedure was to go there after our meal, but we then noticed that she was taking the card machine to another table so we decided to sit and wait for her to come since that's the procedure. After this, she brought the bill to our table (she never came and asked if we wanted the bill or if we wanted to order anything else). We told her we needed to pay with 2 cards... and before I could say that we'll just split the cost half-half, she says in a very rude and loud manner "OH JESUS YOU SHOULD HAVE TOLD ME SPLIT BILL!" after which she walked away. How could we have asked for a split bill when she never even came to the table for us to ask for the bill?
My advice - food is great, but maybe try to get a male waiter; she was the only female waitress we...
Read moreBreakfast Review! First off, it’s one of the only places actually open for breakfast so immediately it gets on the board. It’s also walking distance from where we stayed (Margaritaville) so more points.
The fact that the breakfast was actually awesome makes this a complete and total win. Both my wife and I had omelettes which came out near perfect. They came with toast and potatoes - which it’s doesn’t say on the menu and was a nice surprise. Also delicious. Having never had Johnny Cakes before (and my only exposure to the term being from the Sopranos), I decided to order them as a side. Pretty good. Definitely better with the jam.
I’ll save you a bit of time in trying to figure out what bangers are, it’s just British for breakfast sausage (it is not, as my sister who lives in Crewe confirmed, British people with loose morals). So. Crisis with my wife averted, said bangers were ordered and they were delicious.
Now the coffee. Short version, it’s really good. Even shorter version, it’s Folgers. Really. My wife owns a coffee place so I’m pretty good with identifying solid coffee and was totally surprised - I’m going with they brew it with magical Bahamian waters and infuse it with wonderful to make it so next level.
Finally the service. Our waitress was kind, personable, and very friendly.
So that’s that. I’ll likely do a dinner review at some point as we will for sure be...
Read moreWell, on every trip, you will encounter a situation where events do not unfold as they should. As I am British, my partner suggested a trip to The Cricket Club for some British cuisine as a change from seafood and more seafood in Nassau. We had walked past the huge establishment several times, and it looked promising. We dressed up, and the other guests arriving at the same time were dressed up as well. We were taken to the outdoor seating area, but I noted the cavernous inner rooms were empty. I ordered Braised Lamb Shanks and my partner ordered a salad to start. The first clue of going off the rails occurred when our server brought out a bottle of store bought salad dressing with a half inch of dressing congealed on the bottom of the bottle stating this was all they had. Yikes! My food arrived, it tasted fine and we ate our meal, but then noticing that we were the only people eating on the patio. Only drinks on all the other tables. I had to go into the restaurant to pay and then realized that this establishment is a place to drink beer, throw darts and hang with the other British expats. No one was eating, period. An hour later I realized why, as I experienced one of the worst cases of food poisoning ever. Absolutely no doubt as to the cause. Good place to drink, throw darts but DO...
