Fish Central — Restaurant in New Providence

We come to Nassau every year. The Fish Fry is a place we always try to visit. However, this night was awful.

First, we got lured in. The guy by the door made promises of buy one get one drinks, he said the snapper could be fillet. We really wanted grouper and Lobster but he said grouper was out of season and that it would have to be snapper. He even went in and asked the chef if it could be filleted and came out to tell us it could be.

Next, we were told we couldn't go up to the balcony. It was hot in there was no air conditioning except for a loud noisy fan. Then we were told it's not buy one get one free drinks but got offered a drink on the house. Then we got told we couldn't have Snapper fillet.

We settled with a different kind of fish later finding out it was a cheaper kind of fish even though we paid the amount for the grouper.

But the main issue was the lobster. My boyfriend's Lobster was tough and chewy and had to be recooked. Our waiter , who by the way was the only waiter in the whole restaurant filled with people, coming out asking him if he wanted it grillrd again or boiled or if we wanted anything else. Basically it felt like the cooks just didn't want to remake it.

My Lobster was awful. We were talking to having at least one of our meals cooked on the grill in foil all together with vegetables. The fish was great as was the vegetables however when I took a bite at to my Lobster it was like taking a bite out of a raw fish. It was so bad I almost threw up on the table.

With all the lies that we were fed and all the terrible food we were fed the only thing that went right was the drinks were good and the waiter did the best he could under all the pressure he was under.

Get yourself some new chefs and get yourself some more wait staff. I don't expect for this place to still be open next year and this is from someone who has been in the restaurant business since they were 15.

Our experience was mediocre. The service was decent although a little bit of personal relations always helps. The food was OK, the plantains too greasy, the peas and rice excellent but the Conch not fried all the way. It would be helpful if they did not get snappy when you asked questions. The real problem was the server that got us a Taxi afterwards to Cable Beach but we were dropped off in a different place. I did not realize it until we were off the cab. The Island right off the boat feels as if though you are only there to be taken advantage of. I understand...we are all trying to make a living but the whole experience feels like you are fighting huzzlers off. They are just worried about getting you in but they don't hold up their bargain. . Absolutely wonderful! We ordered the fried Conch and fried Grouper. It was delicious, tender, flavorful, crisp on the outside, and so so fresh. We ordered macaroni with each dinner, and it was unspeakably good. The pasta was tender, the cheese was baked in, and the spices were perfectly balanced to have an amazing taste. I don't think I could recreate this at home. We had the Sky Juice "Leaded" on the recommendation from a local. It was a surprise on the first taste, but it definitely grew on me.
