We decided to try On The Edge at The Fish Fry during our trip and asked our cab driver, Blaze, for recommendations. Blaze was incredibly friendly and even called his friend, “The Captain,” to reserve six seats for our family. When we arrived, we were the only ones there, which initially felt promising but also a bit unexpected.
One thing we noticed upon entering was the strong smell of cleaning products, which was overpowering and could be improved for a better dining experience. That said, the staff members were incredibly nice and attentive.
The menu was limited as we were informed that they were out of most items, leaving only the “dinner” options. We ordered their “platter,” which took some time to arrive. The chef explained that it was because everything was made fresh and sourced locally, which we appreciated. However, the portion sizes and pricing left us disappointed. The platter cost over $200 USD, and while the food was good, it didn’t justify the price. Paying $20 for a small portion of rice or macaroni and cheese, which barely allowed each of us a couple of bites, felt excessive. Additionally, we had just one Diet Coke and two Sprites, which weren’t included in the picture we took of our meal.
While the quality of the food and the friendliness of the staff stood out, the pricing felt exorbitant, even compared to dining in the U.S. If you choose to visit, I’d recommend asking about prices upfront to avoid any surprises.
Overall, it was a decent experience, but the value for money...
Read moreAbsolutely stay away from this place. Complete scam designed to take advantage of tourists. Server was extremely vague about prices, took out order and quotes us 35$ USD for cracked conch and two sides ( this is way more than most other places). After 15 minutes of ordering, the server told us they were out of plantain and offered to give us double order of macaroni instead. We had not ordered macaroni at all, when we questioned her she began to try to gas light is into believing we had in fact ordered it. I watched her write down our order, cracked conch, rice and peas and plantain.
At this point my wife asked if she could clarify what we were getting and of course it was more than we had ordered and the price had increased. At this point we told her we weren't going to stay, I have 20+ years of restaurant experience and am a seasoned traveller of North America, Europe and the Caribbean. This was obviously an attempt to take advantage of us assume we were tourists from the cruise ships docked near by ( we had been in Nassau for 5 days at this point and tried many other excellent local restaurants with no issue).
Shame on you for your underhanded tactics, I highly recommend going elsewhere as there is no shortage of great places with respectful and honest practices. Stay away...
Read moreWe were told to eat at the Fish Fry in Nassau, but I didn't realized there were so many restaurants to choose from. I checked online reviews and this place had the highest so we tried it.
BEST DECISION EVER! The cook brought us a sample of delicious oxtails while we waited for our recommended entrees of sweet & spicy wings, whole snapper and fried shrimp with peas & rice and steamed cabbage! Everything was well seasoned but not too spicy (ask for hot sauce if you want more heat). We washed it down with fruit-flavored Kalik and waddled back to our cruise ship full and satisfied!
Special shout out to the staff for great recs and making us feel at home! 8.5/10 for overall experience Pros: Food authenticity, service, value Cons: Just need to find a way to keep...
