Located in the heart of Gulshan 2 road 101, SoI 71 is considered one of Dhaka’s premium dining destinations, known for its upscale ambiance and prices. The restaurant’s elegant setting makes it an ideal spot for a special meal, but it also comes with a premium price tag.
We began with the Prawn Tempura, which was perfectly crispy and served with a flavorful chili dip. As a complimentary treat, they served Mushroom Hormok, which had a baked Tom Yum soup flavor, but unfortunately, it didn’t quite hit the mark for us. The texture was off, and it lacked the depth we expected.
Next, we ordered the Red Curry Beef with coconut gravy, paired with Tom Yum Fried Rice. Contrary to what one might expect from the name, the fried rice was actually quite spicy—definitely not baby-friendly. However, the rich, aromatic flavors of the curry were fantastic. The Shrimp Tempura also stood out as a crispy, savory treat.
There was a slight hiccup with the chili sauce served at first, which had a stale taste. After bringing this to their attention, the staff apologized and brought us fresh sauce, showcasing their commitment to customer satisfaction. My child was entertained by the fish tanks, adding a fun touch to the experience.
At the end of the meal, we were pleasantly surprised with complimentary cookies—a lovely touch.
Service was impeccable: welcoming, attentive, and polite. The portions are generous, perfect for sharing. However, the cutlery was not up to standard, and some mosquitoes were a nuisance.
Overall, SoI 71 provides a memorable dining experience, though they could improve cleanliness and...
Read moreI usually don't leave bad reviews. But the food at this place was just AWFUL. Thai soup looked and tasted like leftover sink water. Hands down the worst soup I have ever had in my life (I have been to over 20 countries. So it was a very low bar to cross lol). Cashew chicken was so bland and the chicken was definately old as it was tasting like the refrigerated old chicken. I was fearing that the chicken will get me sick. Thankfully I didn't get sick. Noodle was also very bland. I was so surprised that a restaurant can still be in business with such awful food! Specially considering the premium price they charge. Only decent things were the spring rolls and Americano coffee (coffee was pretty good in fact).
The atmosphere and ambience were good but the astonishingly bad food left me speechless. And this is coming from someone who rarely complains about food (check my...
Read moreI really liked the warm hospitality and the luxurious, well-decorated ambiance — it gave off a great fine dining vibe. However, the food was a bit of a letdown. I’d rate the taste 6.5/10, while I had expected it to be closer to a 9/10. Unfortunately, the chef didn’t quite meet the mark.
The pricing is on the higher side, which is expected for a fine dining experience, but one major concern was the lack of privacy. It was quite disappointing to see random food or lifestyle vloggers filming without any prior permission, which felt very intrusive and annoying. Although the management took action after we complained, I believe they should have clear policies in place to prevent such incidents from happening in the first place. Allowing random people to record in such an inappropriate manner really affects the overall...
