Ellis is an underwhelming restaurant, do not eat there if you literally have any other option. My experience there was an absolute disaster. Ended up paying 30€ for cold food, bad attitude and drinks spilled on my clothes.
I came there with my girlfriend on Sunday June 8 as I didn’t know any better to get 2 student deals (burger + fries) and 2 coffees.
Service: The place was severely understaffed. The waiters haven’t been straightly rude at first, but weren’t very helpful or polite either. They would forget about our table at all. Our food has been standing on the serving counter for 10-15 minutes before I had to ask their staff where our food was. Of course, it was cold. The waiting time was very long and they prioritised clients with reserved tables, even though we ordered earlier.
The craziest part was when one of the black haired waitresses in glasses dropped 5 cocktails on the floor and their contents spilled on my shoes and my girlfriend’s jeans. This can happen to everyone, but they never even apologised! When I brought this up to the bearded (head?) waiter in blue Ralph lauren shirt, he didn’t react much. When I repeated myself he asked if I “needed a napkin”.
Another young waiter in red shirt used a deodorant while standing at the bar counter, right next to someone’s food.
Food: The food itself wasn’t that bad, but the mentioned problems with service impacted this experience as well. At first we got 2 coffees (cappuccino’s) at a higher than average price. I brew myself and noticed that the coffee machines were pretty good there with a proper grinder. My coffee was good, however my girlfriend’s was sour and unpleasant to taste.
Burgers and fries came in cold, which hindered the taste. The burger was good. Can’t say much about it, just good. The fries were average, but the sauce to them was a mess. It had a sour-vinegar taste.
Place: The place looked quite stylish, which is the reason we came in first. It was pretty clean, not ideal, but definitely not messy. The toilet rooms were disgusting, though. Very small, with bad lightning, minimal up-keeping, urine all over the floor and a horrible stench.
All-in-all I regret that I didn’t ask for a refund, if you read it this far you should definitely...
Read moreLast week me and my partner had the pleasure of dining at Ellis Gourmet Burger. 3 things that caught my eye were the unconventional menu, speed, and client oriented service. Let me dive deeper into these aspects and give you a better understanding of what Ellis Gourmet Burger has to offer.
Ellis Gourmet Burger has a creative and innovative approach to a conventional kitchen. You will find many different burger dishes that deviate from the traditional ones we’re all used to. For example, a barbeque themed burger with a black bun, or my favorite - a mac ‘n cheese burger. I went for the latter and loved it. The crunchy bun combined with the meaty burger and cheesiness will leave your taste buds longing for a second one.
They live up to the name ‘fast food’ while having a minimalist-luxury feel. We ordered 2 different burgers and 1 side dish. The order only took 5 minutes to arrive which is very impressive for the quality food that you receive. The decor is anything but what you’d expect from a burger joint. It has a minimalist feel mixed with the touches of modern luxury. It resembles a modern day apartment furnished by a designer who values warmth and timelessness.
The personnel are both kind, welcoming and definitely client oriented. Upon arrival we were greeted with a big smile and a warm welcome. After being assigned to our table the waitress returned shortly after to take the order for our drinks. During dinner, I dropped my napkin. One of the waitresses noticed and quickly gave me another one. Great overall service!
After exiting the beautiful building near the water less than an hour after entry. We had our stomachs full and noticed - as I said - that our taste buds were longing for another visit. 10/10 would recommend, Ellis Gourmet Burger will definitely see me and my...
Read moreIf Ellis Gourmet Burger cared as much about its customers as it cares about its branding, we would have been in very good hands. The dining hall's sleek atmosphere and large wall mural make great promises about its forays into burger-making history. Even the bottled mineral water boasts on the label about its various accolades.
But history is wtitten by the victor, and whoever that victor may be I am confident Ellis will not be mentioned in their tale. Unless in an annotation about soggy churros, cold main courses and a haphazard staff who need direction on what you ordered, hoe long ago that was, and even which side and dip comes with each order on their own menu.
The wait between drinks and food was as long as other reviews made us fear, which was surprising considering we were the only customers in the place when we arrived. The table next to us received their food sooner - by which I do not mean soon - but the confusion around that turned to pity when, after forty minutes of waiting and ten minutes of eating, they left in the middle of their meal.
When food did arrive, reactions at the table were mixed. I recommend the Cauliflower Wings, homemade lemonades and our table was positive on the Beyond Burger.
Potato Churros were floppy, downright weird and nothing like a churro, and comes drenched in sprinkles of parmesan which does not a garnish make, but the soggy app can be salvaged with the dip. (It will however be on you to make sure that it arrives.) Shiitake burger arrived without the signature sauce. Red Corvette was cold and half consisted of spinach alone.
On another night, in another town, these problrms may not have arisen. But all in all this would be a skip for us next time. Before you revolutionize the burger - learn to cook and serve...
