THE WORST RESTAURANT I'VE EVER BEEN TO, please do not go there. First, we were waiting too long for the waiters to come and take the orders, and only after several attempts to attract their attention, the waitress finally took the order. Second, we chose the lunch menu which included a soup and the main course with either salad or fries as a side dish. Our order was pretty simple: fries for my dad and salad for the rest of us. And again, we waited for too long simply for a bowl of tomato soup to arrive. Once we finished the soup, it took another eternity for a main course to be served. At this point it got even more ridiculous because to my question when the main course will be ready, the waiter replied that the order to prepare the main course is given to the kitchen only once we are done with the soup and added "It's like this everywhere in Belgium, are you here for the first time?"(Genius, isn't it?!). 500 years later, we got our main dish with one big plate of fries and one big plate of salad for all four of us. When I asked the waitress why we didn't get one portion of fries and three separate bowls of salad as we ordered, she kindly explained that it's common in Belgium to serve the side dishes like that (I have very strong doubts about this statement though). Anyway, if you think this restaurant couldn't hit any lower, you are wrong. On top of that, there was a hair in my mom's plate and in mine as well. My mom was very kind not to make a big deal out of it but I could not stay silent and showed it to the waiter and his reply was the last drop in the ocean of disappointment, he said "It's a not a hair, it's some part of something edible" (he didn't know the word in English) as if we are dumb and blind to tell if it's a hair or not. I was so angry that I forgot to take the photo of it... So, we wasted an hour just waiting for the meals to be ordered and served and they were not even tasty. I've seen a poor service in restaurants all over Europe but this one stands alone. I am sorry if my review is too long but this kind of attitude to customers is...
Read moreA nearby shop recommended this restaurant and I'm just utterly shocked about the service. The lady who served us at first was very nice but not a fluent English speaker. So there were some misunderstanding in regards of recommendations for Belgium and vegetarian food. Anyway, we explained to her that we wanted to eat something Belgium but maybe she misunderstood that we wanted some veggies. She told me they only have Bruschetta etc. probably she thought we were looking for veggie food, so we thought there was nothing special here and wanted to eat somewhere else. but out of courtesy we just ordered a menu for one person to try along with the drinks that we already have on our table. Then another waiter came and took our spoons and forks. On my mothers request that she wanted to share the menu with my brother, he reacted extremely reluctant and was insistent on taking back his fork and spoon like we were going to steal it. Maybe it's a cultural thing that ppl think it's rude to share food but this was not a high-class establishment for once. I was so shocked about the treatment that I asked him if it's some sort of law in Belgium that ppl aren't allowed to share food because in Germany it's fine to do so, especially when the portions are larger. But he said that the chef doesn't like it if portions are shared so ok we handed over our forks and spoons bc we didn't wanted to argue over that matter anymore. Great way to make your guests feel comfortable. I tend to rather starve than let ppl treat...
Read moreWhen our planned restaurant was unexpectedly closed we spotted a sign by the sidewalk and cautiously followed the stairs down into an undercroft-like room where we were welcomed by Michel, who turned out to be waiter, and also the cook and perhaps even the dishwasher. Our food was excellent, baked brie starter and beef stew with Brugse Zot beer. Service was not speedy--understandable in a one-man operation--but was piping hot and delicious when it arrived. All around a nice experience in a curious environment. We hadn't, but booking is definitely advised because as Michael explained, he can't handle too many unexpected customers since it...
