We had booked a table for 2 for 8pm on the 31st of Dec. Due to travel disruptions on the Eurotunnel, our travels had been delayed and we had been playing catch up all day. Upon arrival in Bruges, we quickly freshened up in our hotel and made our way to the restaurant. We arrived there at 8:15pm and were told that we lost our booking since we were too late. Ugh, talk about adding insult to injury! The lady at the restaurant said she had sent a message, but we had no missed calls or messages. She also did not show any intention of trying to sort us out. Instead she turned around and started serving a group of people that had arrived after us. So both my husband and I were just standing there in the middle of the restaurant, trying to figure out what was going on, and wondering we would be offered a table at a later time. When we went to the back of the restaurant to find someone who could help us and could clarify if we would be seated for dinner or not. The same lady was there and very abruptly said that we hadn't paid a deposit, so shouldn't be expecting any commitment from the restaurant to offer us a table. She could not have been more arrogant and unfriendly. No attempt to sort us out was made and she just wanted us out of her restaurant. Both my husband and I were baffled by this behaviour and decided it was a lost case at this stage. In all fairness, even if we would have been offered a table, we would have struggled to enjoy our meal, this had all been a bit too unpleasant. Understandably on an eve such as NYE, restaurants are not struggling to fill up their free spots, but yet again, that should not be the reason to refrain from offering your customers a nice service and treat them with respect. I can't comment on the quality of the food, however I'm sure that Bruges is home to a lot of eateries where you will be served with a smile and treated with respect. And if that is what you're looking for, then I would strongly suggest to...
Read moreEver since we went there the lady in charge at that time was frowning multiple times that she's got to work with one chef only and that service would be delayed. We were fine with waiting since we had earlier ordered take away and we quite liked it. But a series of disappointments followed.
We asked for masala chai and we were told that she served the last chai just then. As a restaurant with a kitchen you can expect that chai can be made per request but no! She did not want to take our masala chai request.
After a frustrating wait of more than an hour to receive our starters, we were shocked to see the poorly presented /seasoned masala papad. You could count the number of onion and tomato pieces and top without any coriander. Upon asking if it's usual, she said that this is how it'll be served.
The portion sizes of the main course were so less that even my 6 year old daughter left the restaurant still hungry. The rice portion served per curry as stated by the lady in charge seemed truly atrocious. I hope to never return to this...
Read moreThe most disappointing meal we've had in years. We came to Garlic N Greens on our final night in Belgium. I appreciate that there was only one lady serving front of house, however we sat for over 25 minutes before we were even asked what we'd like to drink. (There was no "sorry for the wait, I'll be with you soon") and we genuinely almost walked out at this point. Tables with dirty dishes sat next to us, uncleared for the entire meal. The starter was tasty enough, but neither myself or my Husband enjoyed our mains. I ordered the Thali - which looked fantastic, but half of the dishes were too salty (and I love salt!) so I left them uneaten. My partner disliked his so much, he just ate his rice and picked the paneer out of the sauce. He said the spice level was the only thing he thought was positive.
I will say that it's great to have a meat-free restaurant, but the service and food just didn't deliver for us at all. I felt so disheartened, I couldn't even be bothered to raise the issues. ...
