This is a lovely location, small square looking down the canal, quiet, peaceful and away from the main tourist area but still close.
We felt good and at peace, the menu was pretty standard , the prices, a couple of euros less than the last place we sat down to eat at but who's kitchen was closed. My two companions went for the croque monsieur while I ordered a cheese and ham omlette. The waitresses were all polite and friendly and the food arrived after a shortish wait.
We were hungry, we should have sent al three dishes back after the first bite because they were, dry flat and made, using in our opinion, the cheapest ingredients.
These were not croque monsieur, barely even toasted cheese / ham sandwiches.
The omlette was very flat, tasteless and the cheese was indistinguishable from the egg with bits of salty processed ham dotted about. It came with dry, hard brown bread, the whole thing was so dry I needed water to help each mouthful go down.
We regret not sending the food back and complained to the waitrose when she bought the bill and enquired how it was she told us this is how these items of food are prepared in Belgium while smiling politely and saying she would pass what we said on to the chef and that we should have sent the food back before we ate it.
I do not recommend eating at this place. A drink, yes, lovely setting.
I am so sorry to have to leave this review .
But this was a terrible disappointment especially as a few hours later we sat down overlooking another canel and had delicious snacks and food and at better value...
Read moreThe food was fine, but the service was really poor. The young server gave us a starter which we didn't order, so we told him so, but he said it was in the set, so we took it. After that we waited for our meals for more than 30 minutes. I made an eye-contact with an elder server to ask about our meals, he came to us and said, "the food is coming soon, because you didn't order the fried cheese(the starter the young one gave us)". We explained to him that we did tell the young server about this, and he said it was in the set. I actually can't remember the exact words this elder server used, coz I only remember what he said had nothing to do with the reason why our meals would come later, when the guests who came after us had already got their meals, which happened to be exactly the same meals as we ordered. What I felt was he was trying to put the responsibility on us, although he said it was their mistake. To conclude, the food is fine, but the service...
Read moreFood and service were both good; however upon checkout the waiter asked if I would like to include a tip on the credit card even though it is not customary to tip in Brugge. When I asked if it was typical to tip he said yes as long as it’s not included which it’s not. So, feeling bad, I gave him €10. Upon talking to my concierge at my hotel, she told me that it is not customary to tip in Belgium. If you want to leave one or two euros extra for good service you can, but it was clear the way he phrased it to me he knew that I was American and could be guilted into tipping . I was in Brugge for three days and ate at many nice restaurants. This was the only one that asked me if I wanted to...
