Because we were only staying one night in Bruges, I booked something simple, not too expensive, only needed a place to sleep. Well, they really gave us our moneys worth. When we arrived, we were asked to park in front of the establishment, one person took our car and valet parked it nearby, another person took our luggage and brought us around the corner (maybe 50 meters?) to a beautiful house where a spiral staircase (life also available) brought us to our room named Nabucco, which was spacious (seriously, it was almost apartment sized) with excellent Wifi, Nespresso coffee maker, small fridge, TV, king-sized bed, desk, dining table, single bed, antiques everywhere, and modern bathroom conveniences with separate toilet. The windows looked out onto a street that went straight to the Market Square (and, yes, I admit, it was noisy at night) - I would sit on the large window sills and just look out at all the fabulous people passing. I can't judge any of the other rooms, but the Nabucco room was just awesome. That night, we also had dinner at the Verdi location itself. It was not cheap, but both service and quality of food was, again, excellent. And yes, they play Verdi constantly. What did you expect at a place called Verdi - the Rolling Stones??? At the included breakfast next morning, they couldn't disappoint if they wanted to: a nice variety of breads and cereals, deli meats and cheeses, fresh and dried fruits, yoghurts, just delish. I'm probably making this review longer than anybody is willing to read, but if ever I return to Bruges, I will definitely try to book the same room there at the Verdi B&B. Oh, before I forget, they all seemed to speak at least Dutch, English, French, German, and probably some other languages too. Made it SO easy peasy for...

Read moreWe booked six months in advance because this place looked so lovely and a bit special for our time in Bruges with our friends. Sadly, there was no room for us when we arrived. We were shunted off to a budget room in an inferior hotel. ||||The situation was handled very poorly as we had no idea what was going on. Upon arrival our friends were carted off one way and us another. We didn't know where they were taken or where we were going - or even that we were going somewhere else. There was something confusing said about us being on different floors, but that was it . There was not a word of apology offered. ||||When we eventually figured out what had happened - our mates got a room at the BNB but we didn't - we tried to get an explanation and were met with arrogance, defensiveness and obfuscation. We eventually got agreement from the manager that he would reduce our charge to match what we'd have had to pay at the cheaper hotel. Surely something that should gave been offered without having to ask at the very least!! We had sussed out the rate difference with the reception at the alternative hotel but we only got a reduction of about half what we should have. We again tackled the manager about that but he was adamant that he had refunded the difference between what we paid him and he paid the other hotel. Again no apology at all. The opposite in fact - he made it clear he did not care in the least. || ||A very disappointing experience. Reading other reviews seems we're not the only ones who have had a similar experience. A nice place but it seems you can't be sure they won't cancel your...
