A very cute, cosy restaurant with basic decor. We visited this restaurant for some more traditional Belgian dishes. The cheese croquettes is a must and is very tasty, I’ll definitely have them again (but probably not in this restaurant). Other food we ordered was the muscles in a creamy white wine sauce, this wasn’t the greatest as the sauce was very watery and bordered on bland. The Caramelised pork shank wasn’t to bad but it wasn’t as described as it was glazed with a basting sauce instead of caramelised under the salamander. The basting sauce was too sweet with a predominately tomato paste flavour which gets to strong 2-3 bites in. I enjoyed the Stoemp which is a flavoured mashed potato.
One of our starters which was the gratinated onion soup was a absolute disaster and we would’ve thought that with such a heavy French influence in this restaurant that they would’ve at least gotten this right. The best way to described this dish is boiled, diced onion in dirty dish water, it was horrendous. This dish was sent back and we were informed that the chef agreed that it was not acceptable. After we finished our meal I saw the chef put the container of onion soup back in the fridge for what I presume is for use in the next batch/service. I would’ve expected this to be tossed due to it being so bad.
Overall the service was ok as the dishes we sent back was comped with no argument and some drinks were complimentary due to the food issues. We sent x2 dishes back due the order being wrong x1 other sent back due to poor quality. We will unfortunately not be...
Read moreGreat place, very friendly and attentive staff, answered all our questions very respectfully and in a very good english. Orders came out very fast considering the fact that both the terrace and the downstairs restaurant were pretty full (under 3 minutes for our drinks, 5 minutes for the first course and about 8 to 10 minutes for the main one). We both had the onion soup for the first course, which was rich in taste and had great consistency, we left the bowls clean and shiny :) That was our mistake, didn't leave much room for the main course. That's why i consider that the almost 10' break between courses actually helped a little. For the main courses, my husband had the carbonade flamand- very tender beef and excellent sauce (his words, not mine ;) ). I had the fish waterzooi with boiled potatoes... absolutely delicious!! Mussels and fish cooked perfectly, also tender and fluffy, very (and i mean VERY) tasty sauce, even looked up the recipe. As i said before, i was already full... but that perfect combination of tastes made it almost impossible for me to stop eating it. Overall, we had a perfect meal in this restaurant, prices not as high as the other restaurants from grand place and the staff made sure that out time spent there was also very pleasant. We'll gladly come back to 'T Kelderke next time we're in...
Read moreMy mother had reserved a table for her birthday. She had booked a specific place in this restaurant. When we arrived a blonde waitress greeted us very badly and answered "ah no I put someone else here it won't be here - sorry to insist but we had a reservation... -I decided to put blabla so go elsewhere". Angry and stressed face and way to talk. Fortunately, another waitress with glasses came to save her colleague's unprofessional behaviour and found us another table. Then during the ordering process the waiter didn't know anything about what was asked, neither if there was gluten (allergen) nor what this food was or any other. He did not know anything of what the restaurant proposed in the menu. Nor where the wine came from whereas they do not have a lot of choice. Then we repeated 3 times that we didn't want fries and that we did not want a bottle of water . We got 3 fries and a bottle of water... 6.50 the bottle of water... It was extremely cold in the restaurant. And the toilets... you have to do something because it's a disaster... for a restaurant where you pay 30-40 euros per person and is on La Grande Place. It's not normal to have all these bad...
