TATAKI_Brussels — Restaurant in Brussels

I have eaten in many countries in Asia and spent much time in Japan. Takaki is a Japanese surname, I guess this place is thus named to suggest it's Japanese, or a tie to Japanese cuisine, but there's nothing Japanese about it. The food is average at best. And to add insult to injury, overpriced. The one exception was the bao, which was nice (we had multiple dishes). The place is newish and very clean but it's true that the top fills up with cooking fumes from the kitchen. The guy who took our order was nice enough. The biggest mystery is how this has a score of 4.8! It was empty and the only reason I stayed is because of the score, but the emptiness...

Large portions and good food that is beatifully presented. The bao menu with truffle mayo fries was exceptional. My only minor criticism is that, as others have already pointed out, the noodle recipes aren't authentic. The Pad Thai is good value at about 13 EUR, but is missing that tamarind sourness. Tataki is an unknown gem in the heart of Brussels. it was a complete surprise for me as i didn’t expect to find such authentic Asian flavors.
