I spent well over an hour wandering around central Brussels on a beautiful Spring day with a good friend, and every lunch place we passed seemed to be packed or just about to close for the break between lunch and dinner. Beer, because it is the answer, drew us to Moeder Lambic. The chef here spent some time work in the kitchen of the acclaimed Noma in Denmark and it shows. The beer list is excellent and I chose the Quasar black IPA - a style I really like but don’t see all that often. The sauce on the carbonnade was complexly and delicately spiced and the beef was very tender - the beer was a perfect pairing. The potatoes, rather than frites, were a welcome touch as was the simple side salad which cut the richness of the stew. My friend had the onion soup - a large bowl of caramel ones onion yumminess accompanied by a slab of toast covered with melted comte. Moeder Lambic was a very pleasant surprise all the way around made even more fun by the excellent and attentive service. The only downside of sitting outside is that smoking is allowed and as we finished up a smoker plonked himself down at the table next to us. We went elsewhere for a post-lunch reward for all our walking.

I was looking for a place to hang out and grab a beer and this was exactly what I was looking for. Most places around Brussels seem to have more tables than bar space, but I was traveling solo and preferred the familiarity of bellying up to a bar. Moeder Lambic had a nice long bar for me to hang out at and a fantastic selection of beers; both their own and other Belgian beers. Some were truly fantastic! I feasted on the "Mixte" which is a charcuterie board of meats and cheeses. Perfect for dinner for 1, or as an app for 2-3. The cheeses were really good, and on par with some of the better cheese I can get in the U.S. The pates were exceptional!

If you fancy a beer and comforting meal, Moeder might be the place for you. A large selection room of craft beers (Lambic sours being among them) and filling dishes such as french onion soup or croque monsieur will get you where you want to be. Service is friendly and quick, and there’s ample seating. Unfortunately the flavours are rather tame, and the prices steep - if you want a good value meal or enjoy well seasoned food, Moeder won’t do. Still come here for their beers, however!

This is hands down the best beer bar in Brussels. The vibe, the coziness and the service made it worth visiting this place three times during our holiday. And I'm sure we'll come back during our next visit to Brussels. The beer menu is really impressive and occasionally they have an extra daily beer menu with additional beer brands. The place is located next to the Anneessens station which makes it easily accessible from the North and South stations.

Had a great time here. Can’t recommend highly enough if you are new to Brussels and want to take a beer journey. I always think it’s a really tough thing when a customer says “recommend me something” but they took their time and guided us through a tasting of three separate Belgian beers which were all fantastic and each completely different from each other. Thanks for taking the time guys, and thanks for the great food as well. Cheers 👍
