You can not imagine that a small door next to the waffle shop leads to an alley ending up in a giant beer hall!

We made a quick pitstop for a beer. I must say the beer "Lambic" was great. I got to know about it from my Belgian friends and the history of this beer hall that serves this beer. It has a sweet bitter flavor that is perfectly balanced.

You must try it if you are in the vicinity as this is the only place that serves this beer. It goes without saying that they serve all other kinds of beer as well. You can not imagine that a small door next to the waffle shop leads to an alley ending up in a giant beer hall! 😱🍺

One of those "down an alley" bars that Belgium seems to specialise in. Delightfully quiet for central Brussels on a Friday lunchtime. Lovely wood eveywhere and some tiled toilets that are worth a visit just to look. We started with the Palette de Dégustation to get an idea of what was what before continuing with a few more glasses of our favourite. In my case a deep red cherry beer with a pleasant mixture of acid and sweetness. This was accompanied by a plate of cheese, blood sausage and brawn and another of bread spread with cream cheese and accompanied by radishes and sliced shallots. A very pleasant snack. The staff do their best to shrug and sigh and look exasperated at the ignorance of all the tourists that come through the door. But it's all an act and actually we felt very welcome. Another case of wishing we'd had another few hours to get comfy and explore...

La Bécasse is a curious little place, with décor that could possibly be described as "medieval banquet". With so many chairs, it's a little pokey, even when there's no many people. This place is certainly worth a visit to try some lambic, and the lambic doux is nice (it gets even better as you keep drinking). They have some typical small dishes to eat (i.e. kipkap, cheese and salami boards, etc.). I suspect most of their beer selection is tailored to the tourists and I found it a bit disappointing.

If you want to explore some more beers but avoid the really horrible tourist traps like Delirium, head to the quirky Poechenellekelder next to the Mannekin Pis for a good selection, and if the lambic interested you maybe also try Moeder Lambic on...

Had a wonderful time at this lovely old pub on three separate occasions on our 4 day belgium trip. I don't think enough is said about the delicious food on offer here. We wanted something filling before we headed to the airport and it definitely delivered! My husband had a pizza, perfect base and delicious, good quality toppings. I had a tortellini dish, it was lovely. Portion sizes are very generous! The pub itself has a very traditional feel and the beers on offer were fantastic and well priced. Not a bad coffee either. If our travels bring us back to brussels, we will return here as out first stop.
