This café is almost the only reason I ever venture up from the South to Strop. Every time — whether I’m with friends or on my own — I order a filter coffee. And every time, Samuel greets me with a gentle smile and says, “I’ve got some new beans. Want to try them?” And every time, I say, “Of course,” because I know the coffee is going to be a solid 11 out of 10.
But it’s not just the coffee. What makes this place special is the quiet — a rare kind of calm. It’s not one of those loud spots where reading a book feels impossible because the music’s blaring or some group has decided to throw an impromptu party. Here, you can just be. You can read, think, unwind with friends after a long day at university, or — more often than not — try to catch up on one of the dozen deadlines we’re constantly buried under.

The food was also very tasty. The Albanian Salted Toast is a must-try! Sitting on the terrace in the sun is just perfect – it doesn’t feel like you’re in the busy city of Ghent at all, more like a peaceful little village in Italy.
