Typica Café in Sucre stands out as one of the best cafes I've encountered throughout South America. The meticulously curated ambiance boasts a unique style, with a well-maintained and relaxing garden that provides a peaceful escape from the street noise.
The coffee is exceptional; both the espresso and Americano boast excellent quality at a reasonable price (12 and 13 bolivianos, respectively). The food is also outstanding, with vegetarian options available. I personally enjoyed the quinoa salad and empanadas – truly delicious. The brownie with ice cream is a delightful treat.
Beyond being a great spot for dining, Typica Café Sucre is also perfect for reading and working. The stable and reliable Wi-Fi, along with electrical outlets at every table, make it an ideal co-working space.
Adding to the charm of the place, Pato Hoffmann, the owner, is a fascinating character worth getting to know. As one of Bolivia's most famous actors, memorabilia from his films, including signed scripts, can be found in one of the rooms. Pato and his entire staff are friendly and attentive, adding a personal touch to the overall experience.
I will fondly remember the afternoons spent in the courtyard of Typica Café – a true...
Read moreI'm Bruna Volpe, owner of Verena Café, and I wanted to share my experience at Typica Café in Sucre. We tried the dulce de leche empanada served with ice cream and a drizzle of sauce… and honestly, it was the best empanada I’ve ever had in my life! The texture was perfect — crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, with a creamy and well-balanced filling. I had never tasted anything like it. We also ordered the cheese and spinach empanada, and it was incredible — flavourful, perfectly baked, and full of homemade charm. We had already visited other Typica locations, including in La Paz, but the empanada in Sucre truly stood out. It’s definitely a place worth visiting — I’d go back in a heartbeat. And to complete the experience, the garden is beautiful and the décor has a special charm that makes you want to...
Read moreThe place has really lovely decor (it’s a chain). The reason for lower ratings is because someone who is involved with the cafe came to our table to tell us off which we found super unprofessional and belittling. We were told off for having our bags on the table as it “sent the wrong impression” (?) & I was accused of bringing my own tea which was in fact a water bottle with rehydration salts as I have food poisoning so couldn’t order anything whilst my boyfriend had a coffee…. He then put our cheque on the table without us having even asked for it (we were planning on ordering more). The man was very passive aggressive and we were made to feel like little children despite being paying customers which is a shame as waiters...
