2022 review I won't be long. the restaurant itself continues the sad space we know, since it moved from its old premises. service is not the restaurant forte, as always. the fish fresh and the sushis traditional: it would deserve a 5 stars for the food quality and traditional cuisine. but today I asked for sushis with wasabi in it, it was served without it. I sent back the food to the kitchen and the sushiman solved the situation by putting with a vengeance so much wasabi in my sushi, it was almost inedible. was he trying to prove a point? which one? as soon as lunch was over, I felt sick because of the amount of wasabi in my sushi. the sushiman's behavior only tarnishes the reputation of an old and traditional japanese restaurant. shame on him.
2021 review nothing better than to visit a restaurant again after a mediocre pre-pandemic experience and to find it alive and kicking. (un)fortunately the restaurant moved & suffered a total loss of character (I love the shabby look of an old japanese restaurant) but the upstairs main salon offers a space way safer than before, in terms of social distancing. two walls of the salon are actually windows open to the street and the gallery. I had lunch there: I don't do executive menus so I choose a la carte. sushi was spectacular. the sushi-meshi at the perfect temperature: in too many restaurants, too frequently you can feel the sushiman's hand temperature transferred to the rice. the best quality fish and great choice of different types of fish. the prices are compatible with the quality of the food I had. better prices, for this quality food, are not easy to find in sao paulo. fancier restaurant, there are a lot. similar food, not that many. better food? yes. but very few. sushiguen is back to my top 5.
2019 review old school japanese restaurant. and I don’t mean it as a compliment. the raw fish quality is rather good but the sashimis are chopped not sliced, the niguiri sushis are too big with too much rice & the fish too thick. the makis are fat, heavy cart wheels. the restaurant itself is more like a shabby izakaya. but the prices are of a fancy sushi bar. there are too many good & very good japanese restaurants in SP to settle down for this aurea mediocritas & coarse technique in making sushis & sashimis. too bad becs the raw...
Read moreThe most classic Japanese restaurant in São Paulo. You won't find cheesy, contemporary inventions here. Only the best classics, served by Takeshi-san, the son of the place's original owner, Shimizu-san, who passed away a few years ago. Try to seat at the counter for a true Japanese experience and ask for Takeshi's specials if you're a true Japanese food lover. For those who don't like fish, they also make very good Udon noodles and a delicious meat cooked with ginger and served with steamed rice. Not...
I recently dined at Sushiguen Sushi in São Paulo, Brazil, and while the sushi itself was satisfactory, the service was a total disappointment. The staff was notably rude and extremely lacking in the customer service skills expected at a renowned establishment. In the hospitality industry, both food and service quality are paramount, and unfortunately, the service at Sushiguen Sushi fell drastically short. Such poor service greatly undermines the overall dining experience, making it difficult to recommend this restaurant. Until there is a marked improvement in guest treatment, I suggest looking elsewhere for sushi in São Paulo. #SushiguenSushiReview #PoorService #HospitalityFail #SaoPauloDiningDisaster...
