In true carioca fashion, service at this place is comically horrendous. You'll have to practically tackle a server to get their attention and smiles are far and few between. Dishes are launched at your table, ignoring who ordered what. What makes up for it is the food and the location. The main dishes have enormous portions that can easily be shared by 2 or even 3 people. Mostly German fare like sausages, schnitzel and other pork-based dishes. Lots of fish options for the pescetarians out there, but wouldn't recommend if you're strictly vegetarian. Everything is fresh and not greasy. The draft beer is nice and cold, we stuck to that choice so not sure about ordering cocktails here (although I'm sure your server will let you know how unhappy he is to be ordering something other than the simplest items). The restaurant is located right by the Lagoa de Freitas, walking distance from Ipanema beach and the bustle of the main core of Rio's zona Sul (south zone neighbourhood). There's lots of outdoor seating including tables under a large, shaded tree, and plenty of indoor seating for those...
Read moreSomething really bad is going over this long existing place. We were 9. Some food we got was burnt, other salty and inedible, the cocktail - undrinkabke - really - not a single one of us was satisfied with his food (some of us, old customers of the place). Service was kind, but hard to get. We tried all the evening to find one waiter smiling to someone in the restaurant. No success here. The sevice was also confused. Things did not come, other disapeared from the table. The atmosphere was dead. It was a hot evening, but the 4 huge airconditions and the ventilators were unable to help even a bit. It was very hot inside, and the diners felt it. I ended up paying for all my guests, because I felt it was unfair to ask them to participate in paying for such a poor show. We hope that this previously well respected institute will find a way to turn things around. I shall be more than happy to write a glowing review in the future, if this turnaround...
Read moreBar Lagoa is one of the most traditional bars in Rio. Bar Lagoa's original name was Bar Adolf, but during World War 2 they changed the name to Bar Lagoa.
Famous for the chopp (draft beer), steak and cheese sandwich, german food, family atmosphere and the bad mood of the waiters. Their mood is only bad if one is neither a regular customer nor a friend of a regular customer.
If you go there (you should), ask to sit on one of Gomes' tables and tell him that I (Marcos Colagrossi) suggested you to go there and look for him. Gomes will take good care of you. If it is Gomes' day off, you will be welcomed anyway.
Go during the evening, they open for lunch but you don't wanna have lunch there. Prices are moderate and food is good if you know what not to order. Never order pizza, for example. My favorites are the steak and cheese sandwich and white or red sausages with potato...
