Dairy Queen Grill & Chill — Restaurant in Alberta

My friends and I visited this location this past Thursday December 15th on our way back to Calgary from Banff. My two friends and I were the only ones in the restaurant but the food took at least 15mins to get to us (maybe it was slower because we said we would eat in?). However, the problems started way before we got our food. The man who 'served' us (I use that term loosely) didn't even say hello when we walked in. He just said "your order", which sounded more like a demand than a question. My one friend ordered first and he was rude and short with her as if our patronage was an inconvenience to him. He wouldn't even let us finish saying our order before he was moving onto the next demand. "Drink"...again, not sure if that really even was a question. When we asked to upgrade our meal with the $1 blizzard option his only response was a stone cold look and a "pick one off the board". When I personally ordered my own blizzard I asked for one that was not on the list as it was one they had a few years ago called chocolate covered strawberry (I have been to locations from ontario through to bc and I always ask for the same one). Now because it's not on the list I do get some (very little) questions on how they would go about making it (Stawberry and chocolate chunks) but I've never had anyone tell me no and that they will not even attempt to make it. This man however (whom I'm almost certain was the manager, which makes this even more surprising) flat out said "no". No explanation as to why. I explained that I didn't mind about it not being the right consistency, I'd just be happy with however it came out. Normally I would just give in and pick one off of the list and not waste my breath but after hearing him be rude to my friend and then to me...I didn't feel like giving up so easy. I asked him why he would not try and said that at any other Dairy Queen I have ever been to I have never had this issue. His response again with a stone face was simply "no". I tried to reason with him and he argued with me to the point where I was about to walk away and just eat somewhere else. As I was about to turn around he said "fine, but you can't complain. I will not turn it upside down" I said that was perfectly fine.

The blizzard was fine. I enjoyed it. He did not turn it upsidedown and I will never go there again nor will I recommend anyone to. I've worked at subway, tim hortons and in plenty of other customer service roles and if I ever treated customers as poorly as he treated us, I would have been fired. I did not appreciate that experience at all and I will not be going back.

Drive another 15mins into Banff or wait until you get to Calgary but do not waste your money or time on a place where you are treated...

Avoid at all costs! Not only is the food by far the worst you will ever have at any Dairy Queen EVER. The service is so rude and so disrespectful it's shocking! Even if you're very very polite!

You're on your way out of the mountains, you're hungry and you just need something so you're thinking of ignoring all the bad reviews and risking it here? Don't do it! You're not going to end up with a full stomach and you're not going to save time by going here just to avoid back tracking slightly up the road to the other fast food places. I learnt this the hard way, save yourself from making the same foolish mistake!!!

You will end up, waiting an extra long time even though there's no one else there, you will not end up with a full stomach, you will be yelled at just for attempting to place an order. You probably will be shocked by how the service is not simply bad but down right aggressive. You might wonder what you did, probably nothing, but the level of anger and hostility the staff will treat you with will make you want to double check you didn't run over their Grandma in the parking lot because why else would they be so extremely mad at you for coming in and giving them business? Seriously, it's that bad!

My experience here was consistent with every other bad review you see for this place, yelled at for saying hi and trying to order, then they couldn't understand me (I was very clear and slow) and more yelling (also the people who work there are very hard to understand themselves so you'd think they'd be more understanding about that) then after all that I got the food and it's not what you expect from a DQ I think they gave me about 8 fries with my meal and it looked, smelt and tasted off. Also before I realized how few fries I was given I physically went into the (empty) restaurant to grab some ketchup because the drive through window was slammed(literally) in my face before I could even ask for any. Going in was a big mistake for 2 reasons, 1) you do not want to see the state of the people working there or the kitchen, lots of hair, no hairnets or ties, filthy looking kitchen area and the whole place was stinky 2) I was yelled at and harassed for attempting to “steal” ketchup I tried to tell them I just went through the drive through and all the staff showed up at the counter like a pack of angry wolverines yelling and screaming about how I chose my sauce and you have to pay for additional, it wild how mad these people got and since when is ketchup extra?

Unless you're a very bad person seeking a bit of punishment I strongly recommend avoiding this DQ at all costs!

Also with is kind of consistency in the bad reviews I really don't know where the good reviews are...

Bought a cake here twice and same experience. No issue with the cake but you would not be able to request for a new one other than whatever is on display regardless if it was poorly finish/damaged. I requested if they have a new cake of the same design which does not have the damaged, the first staff told me there is no more stock (INSISTED FOR ME TO GET THE DAMAGED ONE), the second staff told me they have a new one and willing to get it in the freezer but the first guy spoke with him (IN THEIR OWN LANGUANGE, INDIA DIALECT) and changed his mind that they don’t have anymore right on the spot AND not even checking! So rude attitude of the first staff! All the workers here today speaks the same native tongue and I doubt the cake I ordered if it was clean or made some disgusting thing on it while writing a dedication by their staff! I WILL NOT RECOMMEND TOURISTS TO GO HERE! There are other places to get cake or DO NOT GO HERE WHEN YOU SEE staff that has VERY POOR...
