My boyfriend and I came into this establishment while enjoying downtown Calgary. The lady taking our order tried to usher my Beau back outside and when he apologized and said we were going to order she pointed at the QR code. We sat and looked at the menu on our phones for awhile and the girl asked 4 times in 2 minutes if we were ready to order. I asked to get the Queen cocktail without banana, the server asked the “barista” if that was ok and she said yes. I ordered the queen and my beau ordered the king paid cash and tipped 20%. I went to the washroom and someone tried to open the door. Not unusual. Then the door started rattling and it sounded like someone was using a key. So I said “I will be right out!” I went out and one of the girls who was working there was standing outside staring at me.. Again didn’t think anything at this time. Returned to our table while we waited and my beau told me the girls are pointing at him and watching him. When I looked at the girls it was very clear they were talking about us and “watching us”. When my cocktail came it had banana in it and my beau told the lady (who took the order) that this was wrong. The girls argued back and forth and I tried to just take the drink. At this point it was very clear they were stigmatizing and marginalizing us based on our appearances. Finally (whom I believe is the owner) said they would make it right. When they handed me my “new” drink it was a slush with whipped cream on top. I wanted to go back because this was not the $15.00 drink I paid for however the way we were treated in this establishment was enough for me to toss the drink in the garbage and cut my loss. Just because we have tattoos and my beau is big doesn’t mean we are substance users. The girl trying to get in the bathroom after 2 minutes of me being in there (and being a paying customer) was checking to see if I was “using”. We will never step foot in this establishment again. What a complete waste of $40 and waste of our time. We stay downtown Calgary frequently and enjoy supporting local places. We will make sure to support places who treat all individuals from ALL walks of life with dignity...
Read moreI was excited to come here when I heard about this place. I mean the name itself promises chocolate and being a chocoholic I had prepared to eat everything. This place is in a good location downtown that is nice and close to a C-Train. I walked inside and this place is beautiful. It's warm brown walls and exotic touches whisked me away to a far-away place. The speakers played some beautiful instrumental music to set the mood. A beautiful mood it was. Sadly this is where it changes.
The service here isn't that good. They are friendly but not very attentive and very slow. I was the only person there. I had to wait a long time before I was seated. When I was ready to order, I had to wait a good 15 minutes before the server came and asked me what I wanted to drink alone. They rarely came by to check on me and I had to continually flag down someone. Again, there was noone but me here in this place. My food which should be something relatively simple took a long time as well.
The food was okay but disappointing especially for the price. Since there isn't alot to choose from, I ordered a green tea, fruit skewer, and crunch fruit salad. The green tea was good and of course the chocolate was great but you don't get this chocolate sauce on alot of their product. My skewer had a cream puff that was definitely a store bought item, very little fruit, and a marshmallow that was very generic. The salad had a few fresh fruits with whipped cream and some strawberry ice cream and that was good. However, the bits of chocolate were bland in comparison to the chocolate sauce. Then I found frozen fruit on the bottom of it. This is something that I could do myself if I wanted.
In short, this place is an okay place to stop if you have the money and you like some good ethinic music. But don't expect too much with the food. There are better places to enjoy some chocolate. And make sure you're not in a hurry. You'll be late if...
Read moreI wish I read the reviews before deciding to come here. The server said we could sit wherever. So we did and waited for menus. After several minutes the server pointed to a little QR code on the corner of the table (other restaurants usually have them in the centre of the table). We ordered 2 Turkish coffees, 5 hot chocolates, 3 nachos. The serve brought out 6 hot chocolates. We tried to give her one back, but she didn’t take it. We enjoyed our drinks but there was something white, thin, and big in the hot chocolates. It looked grossed and we just scooped it out because we assumed it was probably the marshmallows??? The server then brought out one nacho and said the other nacho would be several minutes. We said thats fine. Another nachos came out. We assumed the server misheard us about the 3 nachos and that the 2nd nacho was the order that she was talking about since she already misheard us about the drinks. The server did not check in with us or ask us if we needed anything or hows the food etc. We had to help ourselves to napkins and cutlery. I asked for some tap water. Turns out they DO NOT HAVE TAP WATER and we had no choice but to pay for bottled water. I have never been to a restaurant that does not offer complimentary water for paying patrons. After 30 or so minutes we were ready to pay and leave. Then came out another order of nachos. Why would nachos take that long? With that amount of time I honestly think the chef ran out of ingredients and ran to the store. We asked for a to go container and a bag. They gave us a bunch of small 3 portion take out containers to pack an entire plate of nachos. I told them we dont want to take them and to take it off the bill. They absolutely refused. They then gave us a slightly larger container. But still no bag. I had to help myself and grab a bag. Poor staff is usually a result of...
