We were very excited to have another Korean BBQ spot close by and had to give this place a try as we love Asian BBQ restaurants.
We visited on a Saturday evening and it was already lively when we got there. As our meal progressed a line also started to form outside so it's nice to see the turnover is fresh. The staff were also hustling like crazy so props to them, they were all working so hard and running around like crazy serving everyone.
We ordered the marinated short rib, the marianted shoulder/collar, fresh skin off belly, 2 orders of rice, and spicy buckwheat noodles.
The food was all very tasty, we particularly like the marinated meats and the cold noodles! Also, among the side dishes that come with the meat, we got a soup that was very delicious. It's pretty usual to get a bean paste soup with KBBQ as a side dish, but I was surprised at how substantial this one was, as it had lots of veggies and even meat in it (as opposed to most places where it's mostly liquid with just a bit of veg or tofu).
The only reason I'd give it 4 vs 5 stars right now is simply for the price and the small menu. I think if they had a few more non BBQ items and had some more affordable beef BBQ items it would really make it great. The cuts of beef we got were delicious and great quality, but for some people like us, we're okay with a slightly lower quality cut of meat at a more affordable price, especially when the meat has been marinated.
I would also love to see more meat sauce options, as they mostly just had a spicy gochujang sauce and that was it. I think the typical sweet soy sauce type of dipping sauce you see at BBQ places would have been great to have to have. Especially for diners who don't love spicy.
Overall our experience was good - tasty food, friendly staff, and good location. If they were to implement the menu changes I suggested I would certainly be back, but until then I think there are slightly better options...
Read moreI was hosting an international artist who came to Vancouver for his performance and we decided to go to a Korean BBQ restaurant.
Service - 5/5. Kind, attentive, refilled side dishes at once and replaced the grills as requested. Atmosphere - 4.5/5. It was clean and cozy. It wasn't anything fancy, but well organized.
Food - I thought the pork belly and marinated pork were just alright. It wasn't mind-blowing. I think it's because the fire was really weak until one of the employees came to turn it up. However, my wife really liked the pork belly and also loved the marinated pork. Interesting...
The meat was quite fresh. The bean paste soup comes with the BBQ was so-so. Was expecting a few more side dishes tbh.
I would give 4/5 but taking half a star off, because they do not have Ssamjang (쌈장) - the chili paste + bean paste blended sauce.
Come on, it's like pasta/pizza without Parmesan, or french fries without ketchup! They had their own version of sriracha-style liquid chili sauce (초고추장?), but it really didn't convince me. I mean, seriously... :(
The only two sauces I usually eat with Korean BBQ is Ssamjang or sliced raw onions/chives in sweet soy sauce. This place did not carry any of my two favourite (and most common) sauces.
So I left the restaurant in confusion. The dinner went well, but didn't get that satisfaction I usually get after having Korean BBQ.
Since the service was great and most of the food was decent, I'll still come back again. 쌈장이나 파채/양파 소스...
Read moreNot a lot of selections on the menu, but the ingredients are fresh. Service is great and I like the atmosphere. Great place for gathering for beer.
We ordered marinated beef rib and fresh pork skin belly. There are only selections for either pork or beef with marinated flavor or fresh (unmarinated). The meal comes with a small stone pot, half filled tofu bean soup, which to me, tasted too salty. Besides the soup, the side dishes come with kimchi, sour and sweet marinated radish, marinated onion and a bowl of salad. The salad is blended with light sour sauce, which gives a refreshing taste.
We also ordered their cold buckwheat Korean noodle soup which I think is their best dish. The flavor taste a bit sour, since they've added the sweet and sour radish along with a few slices of tasteless beef, shredded cucumber and half of full cooked boiled egg on top. Personally I like the light taste and it feels refreshing if you don't like to eat too much meat.
They don't have many selections on the menu, if you are looking to eat just beef or pork korean,BBQ, then this restaurant can be added to your selection. However, personally I will prefer more variety in flavors and other Korean dish options because it feels that you can simply buy the same beef or pork from the grocery and BBQ at home for...
