We had a meal at Koya Japan in Coquitlam Centre today. We ordered beef and shrimp with noodles. What initially attracted me to try this place was the appealing presentation of the food and the long line of customers, which made it seem like a popular choice. However, after trying it, I wasn’t really impressed. The shrimp was undercooked, and I didn’t like the taste of the beef at all. To me, the dish wasn’t as enjoyable as it looked, and I don’t think I’d try it again. It might be a great option for others, but personally, it wasn’t for me. Also, for a larger portion of any dish, you have to pay an extra $5.

I had the beef teriyaki and I enjoyed it. The vegetables were cooked nicely, the beef + the sauce was very tasty, and their rice is good too. Their teriyaki has bean sprouts, and as someone who doesn't like bean sprouts normally, I ate this without complaint, so kudos for that! The price is also very reasonable; I believe for one person it was $12, and that's an excellent price, good value for money. 4/5

The staff was super friendly. It was dinner time and the skilled staff was able to quickly and efficiently process a lineup and make food simultaneously. Food was very well priced, with very good portions. The newly renovated food court was very nice too

This place is the most dishonest and irritating place to eat I think I've ever been to. I ordered a vegetarian ramen, and when it was being made something seemed off to me, as the girl making it was scooping broth out of the same pot I'd seen her scoop for a non-veg one. So I asked multiple times if the broth was vegetarian, and if it contained fish or dashi, and she assured me it was vegetarian and did not have fish, though it did have dashi (which doesn't make sense since dashi is literally a fish broth). I also want to point out that the sign did not say "Veggie," ramen, it specifically said vegetarian. Well, eventually an older guy in the back who had clearly overheard us talking said casually "Oh yeah, it has fish. They all do." When I asked why they were blatantly lying to their customers, he just shrugged and said "Oh we just forgot to tell you." This was obviously just him lying to my face, as even if the girl serving me had "forgotten", me asking her to confirm in three different ways would have no doubt jogged her memory. Needless to say, I asked for a refund right away. If I had ended up never asking, and eating the ramen, I would have become extremely ill. In the past I have also ordered teriyaki tofu here that had very obvious visible pieces of chicken in it from a prior order. I wanted to contact them but they don't even offer any way to contact them on their website, check yourself if you don't believe me. Never eat here, especially if you have an allergy or dietary preference. They...
