Great Food, But Disappointing Service

I recently dined at Besharam Bar and Grill and had mixed feelings about my overall experience. While the food's taste was undeniably delicious and left my taste buds dancing, I couldn't help but feel disappointed by the service we received.

Let's start with the positives: the culinary experience at Besharam was outstanding. From the appetizers to the desserts, every dish tasted good.

However, the euphoria from the culinary journey was significantly dampened by the service. The word "pathetic" accurately describes the service I encountered. It was not just one isolated incident but a series of disappointments throughout the evening.

Once seated, it took an eternity for someone to bring us menus and take our drink orders. The server appeared flustered and inattentive, making us feel like an afterthought. Throughout the meal, we had to repeatedly flag down the server for drink refills and to place our orders. The lack of communication and delays in service were frustrating. In fact, I eventually had to personally walk over to the bar to retrieve ice after waiting for nearly 40 minutes.

Compounding our frustrations, there were notable delays between the arrival of our dishes, disrupting the natural flow of the meal. It became apparent that there was a significant lack of coordination within the kitchen and among the staff. To cap it all off, the restaurant was even out of Roti, an unexpected disappointment at an Indian dining establishment.

In conclusion, the service provided during my visit was truly disappointing. While the taste of the food will linger in my memory, it will be difficult to forget the subpar service. I hope that the restaurant can address these...

Absolutely outstanding South Asian restaurant in Halifax. The decor was beautiful, the seating was comfortable, and the menu is modern and unique. There are not many restaurants of this type anywhere in Canada, and the offerings here are distinct and different from the standard Indian restaurant fare found throughout the country.

There are excellent vegetarian and non-vegetarian choices, depending on your preferences, and the kitchen was very respectful of our wishes to have a mild meal (in terms of chilli spice level); this is important as my wife & I prefer to savour the rich and delicate spices of South Asia without overloading on chillis, and not every place is able to balance that request.

We had Afghan tikka and tulsi tikka, both delicious and flavourful, as appetisers. For our mains we had dal makhani and Durbar kofte, with basmati rice and garlic naan. All of it was excellent & prepared in a way that stood out from typical fare. Dessert was shahi tukda, a delightful specialty from Mughal cuisine, also known as double ka meetha in Hyderabadi cuisine. It was SO GOOD. They got it perfect.

This restaurant represents South Asia exceedingly well; the stairs up to the 2nd floor are lined with pics from India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Nepal. If we lived in Halifax, we would be regulars, and we will definitely be back on our next visit.
