I recently had the pleasure of dining at McKelvie's, and I must say, it was an outstanding experience from start to finish. From the moment I stepped inside, the warm and inviting atmosphere made me feel right at home. The staff greeted me with genuine smiles and provided excellent service throughout my visit.
Now, let's talk about the star of the show—the fish and chips. Oh my, they were truly exceptional! The fish was perfectly cooked, golden and crispy on the outside, while the flesh inside was moist and flavorful. The chips were heavenly, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. It was evident that only the freshest ingredients were used, and the attention to detail in the preparation was commendable.
The menu offered a variety of options, catering to different tastes and dietary preferences. The portion sizes were generous, ensuring that I left completely satisfied. Additionally, the prices were reasonable, considering the quality and quantity of the food served.
I also appreciate the restaurant's commitment to sustainability. They use locally sourced ingredients whenever possible, and the packaging is eco-friendly. It's refreshing to support a business that cares about the environment.
Overall, I can confidently say that McKelvie's offers a delightful dining experience with their scrumptious fish and chips, friendly staff, and inviting ambiance. If you're a fan of this classic dish or simply looking for a fantastic meal, I highly recommend giving this place a try. You won't be...
Read moreWe researched and decided to go in on a Sunday evening, and base our attendance on reviews here on Google. Upon entering we were asked whether we wanted a booth or chairs and table. We first said Booth then we said chair and our host rudely told us that the chairs were not a booth...thanks. as soon as I saw the hockey game on I should have known it wasn't going to be as good as I thought it would be not that I don't like hockey. The food we had risotto and scallops and lobster roll and crab bisque and a couple of beers. The food was well below standards for $150 and it was like we had to get out of there as it it was a rush. And that was further evidence because as I finish my beer we ordered and it took about 4 minutes to arrive at our table. Clearly it had been prepared. Risotto was like chewy rice play it was cold soup had been on all day nowhere near worth $150. We're not really harping on the restaurant just saying there has to be better places in Halifax and this isn't one of them. Are waitress was very good can't fault her but these people have got to put on a better meal for that kind of money. Sorry but we cannot recommend and we would never ever ever ever go back. That's...

Food/Drinks: Crab cakes were delish starters but I feel like they were a bit overpriced White chocolate cheesecake was great. I was worried that like most cheesecakes it would be too sweet but it was very nice. The cheese wasn’t overpowering and the chocolate drizzle was good too Fried Digby Scallops were fairly big and there were 6 of them. The coconut rice that came with it is so good! It was a great addition to the plate as opposed to plain rice Fish platter was a great way to try a bit of everything. It was all very fresh and cooked perfectly. Lots of flavor in the fish, lobster and scallops
Other Comments: The patio is so beautiful and peaceful, filled with trees, lights and flowers all around. Perfect place to hang out with friends and family There is a mini bar located on the patio too which is unique Despite the restaurant being located on a busy street there was barely any traffic noise There is plenty of shade if you come during the day and it feels cozy to be nestled in between two buildings on the side It’s a few minutes’ walk from the water and overall a delight to stop by for a bite to...
