My experience of Cora restaurant locations until Kamloops was underwhelming, most memorably due to under-ripe fruit so hard it cut my gums, and to wait staff that were glum, inattentive and mistake-prone.
Kamloops however was a pleasure
The food was fresh and well prepared and well-presented, even the fruit. The wait staff was attentive without being intrusive. Cristal, a recent arrival from Chile, presented a massive crepe and then apologized that the whipped cream boutonnieres had slid off to the side because of the heat melt.. That is attentiveness.
The main waitress seized with a sudden cough, turn your back and coughed into her elbow crook. Then she turned back and apologized. She did not have the sniffles or a constant cough.
A TIP ON TIPS.
if the service anywhere is appalling, do not tip zero. They might assume you simply never tip. Tip small so they know something what's disappointing the service was fine tip 15% in Canada and more if your bill was under $20.
If the service was exceptional, make a statement. It is important to also speak to the waiter or waitress and tell them that they were excellent until their manager too, so that they know you simply don't tip large all the time but you are acknowledging their care and Flair.
And please consider tipping chambermaids, especially if you stay more than one night. They make a minimum wage and do not have the advantage of restaurant staff. People do not tip chambermaids because they feel anonymous compared to a restaurant. You can ask at the front desk who cleaned your room and leave an envelope or a note with a bill on the counter in your room. Show appreciation and understanding of someone who works very hard to...
Read moreOctober 26th 2024 Came in between 10:30 and 11 am; it was busy but not crazy busy. Tables were available and clean as well as the high chair. The greeters were nice, they took us to the table and gave the highchair. The server (long curly hair, I did not get her name) vould definitely use a bit more training on server manners. I understand that the kitchen was loud but I was already yelling and she always goes “What?!” when maybe she could’ve leaned closer to hear and understand. My mother has specific needs due to health concerns and she doesn’t seem to know how to adapt to it. We were choosing our food and she was yelling to another 2 tables away “I know! I know!” when she could’ve clearly ignored them for a second because they were really far that it was possible and because she is conversing with us at our table. No colouring for the kids. Our food came after 30-45 mins so we waited a while. Did not even refill my coffee or my mother’s hot water the whole time we were there. The strawberry banana smoothie was too sweet, even for me who likes sweets! When our food came, they seemed cooler than expected, so I think that it may have been ready for a while. I observed other tables and they were getting their food in a more reasonable speed than us, around 15 mins. The pancakes were dry so the kids did not quite enjoy it. There was not the usual WOW factor with our food. I hope that they would do an Undercover Boss episode in this restaurant because I feel like it has gone downhill from when it started...
