Stopped by the lightship with my wife and father in-law who was visiting from out of town. We were aware that there was an event happening at 7:00 PM so phoned ahead to make sure we could get a drink. We were told yes you can come from 4-6 PM and there would be seating on the upper deck only and if we were not staying for the event we would have to leave by 6 to allow for set up. We arrived at 4:50 ish and settled down for a beer on the upper deck. My father in-law was very impressed with the location and was enjoying the beer. At approx 5:20 i went to the bar to get another beer for us all and was told by the server that he would not serve me as "he was too busy and had glasses to clean" he would no longer be serving beer. i noted to him that i had asked previously if it would be ok to come and have a drink and was informed of the conditions and also made him aware of the sign at the front entrance that read " upper deck was open from 4-6PM and there was a paid event at 7:00. His female assistant then went to the board at the entrance and erased the sign. I pointed out to the male server that i was the only person in line and would like a beer for myself and father in - law, to which he replied once again he was too busy and he had made a decision to only serve beer to ticket holders for the event. As a local who frequents the location often i was very proud to show off, in my opinion, one of the best locations in Lunenburg to enjoy a beer with a wonderful view. This experience was spoiled by an obviously egotistic, not happy at his job young man and tainted the whole experience that i wanted to give to my father in-law. I will be questioning if i want to go back to the Lightship if that is the type of service i am...
Read moreThis is easily the best view of Lunenburg with the best deck. It's worth experiencing. That being said, here are few points worth knowing:
The beer isn't great and is quite expensive. I recommend the Essential IPA. Other beers I've had have been skunky, flat, or tasteless. The ciders aren't great. And beer with Lobster juice in it? Nobody wants that. There are no umbrellas on the tables despite having the holes for them. On sunny days it can get uncomfortably warm and the few shady tables fill up fast. It's an obvious and relatively cheap improvement to make the space more comfortable on hot sunny days. Sell the stag-mobile and buy some umbrellas. Propane heaters for chilly evenings would also be a great addition for the shoulder seasons. The fire table is useless. There is a cafe and eatery there that both play their own music and you can often hear both at once and it's really annoying. Often they only have one person working the bar and at busy times (like trivia night) there can be a very long wait to get a beer.
the food is run by a different venue called Boat House Bites. It can be hit or miss, but it's reasonably priced. Wood fired pizza is not bad for the price. the cafe is run by a different venue called The Barn and makes an amazing cortado. Coffee on the deck on a sunny summer morning is...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of enjoying a malty pale ale, and I must say, it was a delightful experience. As someone who appreciates a well-balanced beer with a solid malty backbone, this brew hit all the right notes.
The moment I took my first sip, I was greeted by a rich and inviting maltiness that instantly captivated my taste buds. The beer had a beautiful amber hue, hinting at the flavors to come. The malts provided a satisfying depth and complexity, offering a delightful sweetness that was neither overpowering nor cloying.
But it wasn't just the beer itself that made the experience memorable. The scenery surrounding me elevated the enjoyment to another level. As I sat there, gazing across the harbor, I was treated to the breathtaking view of historic Lundenburg. The combination of the picturesque setting and the flavorsome beer created a truly magical moment.
They have food but I didn’t come for a meal, just a pint and a view. f you find yourself in this beautiful location, I highly recommend grabbing a pint of this beer and immersing yourself in the mesmerizing...
