Very disapointing all around. Only reason i left any tip was for the food runner. The person who greeted us seemed put out that we asked to be seated outside if possible, probably because of the tables that had yet to be cleared that did not seem a priorty to most of the staff inside, however we later discovered that making the paying guest feel like an imposition is a main theme. The 4top that came in after us sat at a dirty table till it was cleared. They took our drink order and i was brought a warm ice tea, so warm it immediatly melted the icecubes and was still somehow warm. I asked what they recommended it being our first experience, i was told and chose the fish n chips and the caesar salad because they boasted an inhouse caesar dressing, my partner chose the philly cheesesteak and fries. The wait for our food was borderline, and then compounded by our food waiting for someone to bring us cutlery. The server seemed overwhelmed as it appeared her section was the entire restaurant and was recieving no help from the handful of staff living their best lives behind the bar save one food runner, she fumbled the cutlery and spilled water down the arm and back of my jacket, thankfully it was on the empty chair. The salad might be better than what i experienced, it was hard to appreciate as most of it was under two hot pieces of far overcooked fish the color of an american football and just made the salad warm and glistening with oil. If you want bacon on your caesar salad to bad, you will need to pay extra to have it put back on. But they do put a generous amount of cheap and stale store bought croutons to acompany their made in house dressing(maybe, it might be, kind of tastes generic). The batter for the fish seems as though it was concocted by someone who merely identifies as a cook, if it wasnt parcooked ahead of time the batter was far too thick(seemed like someone mixed beer batter and hushpuppies? there is cornmeal in it...) and required destroying the texture of the fish to still somehow not be fully cooked and also completly over done. All of this was layed upon an entire leaf of romain lettuce that wasnt washed, cleaned of brown edges or even the rotten edge removed(i took a picture) The cheesesteak meat tasted like fridge and the peppers were borderline. The unused bread for the cheasesteak could make decent croutons for the caesar salad. We both had severe indigestion for hours after.
The bill was $50 and change. The lowest tip setting on their machine is 15%. I purposely left a $5 tip, waited a few minutes and went inside. The looks and subsequent dispersal of staff as i entered the door were telling. While my partner used the facilities before our long trek home i made an obvious approach to the bar and was met with an overt display of momentary ignoring by one of the staff. I asked if she was the manager, she replied "no, we all just sort of manage ourselves, yeaaahhhh." I asked if she would be open to some feedback, she said yes. It was met with mostly a passive resistance and even an outright exasperated "oh no, we dont have time for that, 3 of us are here at 5 in the morning prepping we dont have time to make croutons". We looked the place up after we got home and noticed their want ads needing full time and part time kitchen staff. Oh and that 4top that sat at a still dirty table, the appetizers and mains they ordered came out at the same time, and when the man in the group spoke to this he was met with indifference and a look on the servers face when she turned away as though she was the victim.
From what we experienced this is not so much a restaurant, especially not one centered on quality offerings and guest experience, but more of a convent for frustrated and hurt people, some of whom are fighting the patriarchy one unsuspecting guest at a time. If you would like to experience the live-action train wreck that the pseudo-wisdom of everyone "managing" themselves has to offer, look no further than the Knot pub. Knot a good time, knot worth it, knot recomended and...
Read moreWe were here on a very busy evening and were extremely disappointed. Night started well when we were greeted by hostess and directed to an area to wait for a table. One of our party is diabetic and his blood sugar was dropping so after waiting for service we finally got someone’s attention to get a pop. Staff were made aware of this problem. About 15 minutes or so they later they were back to take bar orders for all of us. A half hour may have passed before we were seated at our table and our order taken. Usually when we are at a restaurant, once we have ordered, our diabetic will program to receive insulin based on his order, and he did this. Here’s where our problem arose. We waited. And waited. And waited some more for our food. The insulin pump is working well so again blood sugar is dropping and dropping. Staff are busy but back and forth past our table many times. The restaurant is slowing down. Finally our waitress comes to see us… she forgot to put our order in. It’s still in her pocket. We left after close to 2 hours in this pub and still no food So to the Knot Pub… what changes can you make to ensure this doesn’t happen again? This could have had serious medical consequences. First, train the hostess to provide an estimate regarding the length of the wait. There’s no use filling the pub when you don’t have enough staff to serve them Many restaurants now use iPads for orders and the orders go directly to the kitchen. Communication with patrons always helps. Setting expectations might have helped a bit Brainstorm around managing in busy times. This all happened during the week during low season. You’ll need a plan to survive the summer. I’m sure you...
Read moreCute restaurant and very friendly staff! Sat us right away, got drinks right away. It took over an hour for us to get our food (table of five, two small soups, two mains, and a salad,) but it was busy so that’s okay. My Caesar salad came, and was AMAZING but absolutely full of sand. I had a few bites and shared some with my partner, who also confirmed it had sand in it. Since it took so long for us to be served, and being a server myself, I didn’t say anything (not that anyone came around to check anyways) and decided to just tough it out. A few more bites, and I couldn’t finish. Two other people in our party took a bite and also confirmed the sand, so we called over a server who said she would handle it right away. By this point we had collectively eaten about two thirds of the salad. Our original server returned and said, “you won’t be paying for the salad,” which was very kind of them! I had even dug through it to pull some sand out, because short of them taking their own bite, how could they know I was telling the truth? They returned with the bill with a staff discount of $5 removed and the salad price in full. I asked the server about what she had originally said, to which she replied “well you ate most of it, so I can’t do much else.” So here we are, trying to be courteous to serving staff, teeth full of sand, and $5 richer. I didnt expect my sandy meal completely free, because I did eat half of it. And it was delicious minus the rocks. But if we are told about our bill and “something” changes, we should be made aware without slipping us our bill and hoping we didn’t notice. But apparently the fish chowder was top notch, I should have ordered...
