This was officially my LAST meal at Jack Astor’s. There are TOO many restaurants in the Square One area (moxies, earls, reds, Scaddabush, etc) to waste money and time here. A horrible experience from start to end with a disengaged waiter. We arrive Saturday evening (we had a reso booked for 8 for a birthday celebration) and enter the restaurant. We’re standing at the checkin counter as 4 females and 1 male are discussing who is going to leave front of the house to go serve food - this convo went on for 3.5 mins as we stare at them waiting to assist us. Finally the male says “have you been helped” and we give him a confused look and speak to the hostess. We get seat (on a half full patio during a HOT Saturday which speaks volumes, in my opinion, to people opting out of their horrible establishment) and the waiter gives us menus and asks if we know what we want to drink. We ask for a few mins and I decided on the rose bubbly bowl which is featured twice in the drink menu. Waiter tells us it’s sold out....HOW is this possible? At this point I’m annoyed and just want to celebrate my fiancé birthday...we tell the waiter to pause on placing our order as we’re considering leaving and he says “well I don’t want you guys to leave”. We ended up staying and place an order for an 18oz steamwhistle, 1 red wine sangria, the Nashville burger, Mexican salad will dressing on the side and calamari. The beer came out and my sangria came 13 mins later - glass FULL of water from the melted ice. I of course ask the waitress to wait before pouring the juice and wine so I could pour out the water and she seemed annoyed (no one wants watery booze). Salad comes out OVERdressed (great, now we had to send it back) and burger looks like cat vomit - subpar attempt at the actually image on the menu. Calamari was great, they definitely upgraded to large squid rings and didn’t overfry it but the plate had the cocktail sauce dried up on it as if it was a dirty plate or someone else’s from before (gross) - who is expediting the food service back there that didn’t think to wipe the plate?! To top things off the waiter forgets about his birthday and didn’t bring out anything special. Total bill was $60.13 and no compensation for an ounce of their terrible service and errors. Definitely a waste of time and I’d need pages and pages to write about the horror we’ve experienced here. Last time it was a long blonde hair in our wings that we (us and our waiter) saw after he sauced and tossed the wings at the table....my appetite was over at that point. Prior to that we sat at the bar on a Friday and ordered nachos which told 58 minutes to come out because they gave our order to someone else who specifically said no jalapeños - so they messed...
Read moreJust a quick drink and snack on the patio as we were on our way to a function and running early. Negatives: When we arrived and asked if we could sit on the patio for a quick drink, without so much as a "yes", "no", or "just give us a minute to check that out", the (extremely young) hostesses launched into full conference mode with each other as if they had just been asked to brainstorm a way to solve the environmental crisis. I mean this took 3 people about 2 minutes, and at no time did they make eye contact with us or acknowledge us whatsoever. This is always the case when entering this particular Jack Astor's, expect to stand at the door feeling completely lost as to what is going on for a good while while they try to sort out what to do with a simple request with no communication with you whatsoever. Staff bringing food from the kitchen seemed equally baffled and not once, not twice, but three times other people's food was brought to our table and then the staff member who had brought it (these do not appear to be waiters or waitresses, but perhaps hostesses doing double duty) proceeded to go to several other tables before finding the right one. When that happens once it's no big deal. But three times in a very short visit? It really seems to speak to a lack of organization and training. It's as though they don't understand whatever numbering system the restaurant uses to identify individual tables. The place was too noisy, And I'm not one who typically complains about noise. They use that piped in noise along with music, and the sound of people chatting far exceeded the sound that could possibly have been made by the number of people present. It was extremely obvious and too loud to speak at a comfortable volume. The vegetarian options were pretty sparse, both in terms of appetizers and on the main menu. Very surprising in a time when so many people are vegetarian if not vegan and most restaurants are keeping up. Positives: We only had panbread with cheese (I'm pescatarian and the friend I was with has a shellfish allergy so there were no other options) but it was very good. The drinks were good (though pricey, but that's the case most places now) and they had a very extensive selection of beer on tap. The waiter was very courteous and professional. Basically your average chain restaurant patio. Nothing exceptional...
Read moreFirst let me say the servers at Jacks are great! Secondly, This is why I might not come back. Yesterday I went in to have a quick dinner with my significant other before going to a movie. I ordered Steak Frites and girl ordered a salmon.
We have been here a few times now and the server even recognized us from two nights earlier. When I got my steak frites it was uncut and the fries tasted worse than McDonalds fries. The steak was not great and I felt kind of sick after eating it almost like if I had pure grease rather than the steak. My girls Salmon was bad enough to the point where she did not finish it.
We sat outside and constantly saw mice running around so that also made the experience worse. Not great knowing I saw 4 Stewart littles running around within 2 meters of where I am eating.
I ate my steak because I was starving. At the end the server came back asked how the food was I told him horrible. He was nice enough to offer to remove the Salmon of the bill but at that point I felt sick after the steak and didn't care too much about the money.
The bill came out to $120ish. We had the following -Steak "Frites" -GRILLED CAJUN SALMON -1 Heinken -1 Glass of wine -1 cheese garlic bread
Price was not bad.
I know I was not eating at STK, but it would have been nice to have had higher quality food to at least match the other local offerings. Not sure if the chefs where having a bad day but it felt like it when I was eat.
I appreciate the server trying to comp the meal. I am sure this being a large company they wont read this or respond. But I at least wanna give a thank you to the server who was good to us.
But I wanted to at least put my experience out there. If they do respond Ill post an...
