Bar Bifteck St-Laurent — Restaurant in Montreal

Last few times I went was amazing service they were so nice to me, so I brought my friends this time for a birthday. We ordered some drinks but then the ginger bartender girl (never seen her there before) for one, gave us our drinks in much smaller glasses than last time for the same price, then two, was highkey talking down on us “you girls must obviously be new to montreal, here’s a tip, tip your bartenders or your not going to have a good night, I can assure you now that you havn’t tipped you won’t have a good night.” ouch. for one i hadn’t even picked up my change from the counter to even have a chance at tipping (I always do) but after that comment I for sure wasn’t going to. We proceed to take a picture with the birthday girl, the ginger bartender asked a guy to tell us to stop “no flash allowed.” We’re like okay but the random girl taking our photo takes one more and then we got yelled at by the huge old random men (mind you we’re all young girls). I’ve seen friends on instagram post photos in that same bar with flash, i’ve taken photos with flash the times I went before, simply just this ginger female bartender seemed like she hated her life and made us hate ours too. Will never be going back there or suggesting it. Extremely small and boring anyway. (girl if your reading this, I was the one in the red top who paid last and was picking up my change as u started going...

This bar performs as advertised; it's a no frills bar with a basic but adequate beer and liquor selection. Prices are about average for similar Montreal dives, but will be cheap and appealing to visitors from Ottawa/Toronto. Lots of students and locals, really friendly and helpful staff... a couple of pool tables in the back as well as Foosball. Good times to be had here. Also Schwartz smoked meat and many other excellent eateries are in the immediate vicinity... Biftek is right on the main. If you're in town for a concert or a game, this is a great place to pregame. Just don't expect super luxury... you pay by the drink, and it can get busy during peak hours so if you're sitting at the bar, don't mess around. That being said, staff are super friendly.

Big plus to this place, in addition to cheap drinks and pool, is their famous free popcorn. Much appreciated after a few pints of boreale on a less than full stomach.

Reliably good spot for what it is.... easy to miss though so keep an eye out, and make sure you...

I have been to Bifteck many times. Up until recently, I have had a lovely experience here. I went tonight, and the bartender asked my group and I if we were from Quebec, to which we said no. She then said, « we make minimum wage here, tipping culture is rampant here. » I then did not tip her due to her asking for it and for her attitude. I was going to tip her out at the end of the night with 10 dollars, after buying 3 four dollar beers. On the second beer, I tipped her 2 dollars for a 7 dollar beer; after she put out her hand for a tip; that was already bottled, she only opened it, nothing else. On the third beer I bought, I tipped her 50 cents, just to give her something. She then brought it back to me and said « this is insulting. » She told us that she would refuse us service if we did not tip her, and we promptly left. DO NOT go here, if the red head...
