The food, the attention and the place 10 points made me go back to my childhood in Venezuela, but something that surprised me the times I have gone is the increase in the prices of the products they sell since I came for the first time a year ago and medium and every time I come to the city it is a fixed stop that I make with my daughters and the 4 times I have gone I have paid a different price than the previous one, I understand due to the problems caused by COVID and inflation due to the war everything increases, which is The cashier explains to me the reason for the increase and as a customer I am curious and I ask the guy if in those price increases they have had any benefits such as salary increases or job improvements and the answer surprised me. a lot since I did not expect it, and their answer was no, they continue to earn the same as 4 years ago, they do not have the right to health insurance, they make them work on holidays earning the same as any other day, they make them train 2 weeks without remuneration and many times they are not hired and the worst thing is that the salary ranges between $7 and $12 per hour depending on how long you have experience or working in the company and that many times when they can raise they are denied for no reason. and they can take hours off your work or take you off your schedule without notifying you, and seeing that you pay $20 for an arepa, it seems disrespectful to me to see how little they value their employees, being a family business with so many years serving the city, And to make matters worse, I find out that the owner of the place only distributes 40% of the tips and with the remaining 60% she pays the artists or groups that go, who are also poorly paid and often undeclared, and if she declares what It is well below the minimum which makes you have to pay money to the government, money that they should pay, what seems to be a family business is much more than that if what they do is take advantage of young people with no experience who come looking for a job. better future and they end up exploiting them and when they begin to demand what they sometimes deserve, it takes them off...
Read moreI used to go to this place quite often for years (since it opened back in 2007-2008?) when I worked around the area prior covid. I loved the food here. The owner and/or his sons used to be leading their staff back then.
Recently, I went back twice and what a disappointment!
The service was awful both times. There were always 3 guys behind the counter, two of them have terrible attitude and it seems they really hate their jobs, the one with glasses and black hair is nice.
Besides the attitude, the service was really slow, I’m not sure if they have a lot of online orders pending but the last time I was there, all tables were empty and it still took over 25 min to get my order. However, I didn’t see any uber driver going in while I waited.
The interior of the restaurant is dark and it gets very warm. During summer, you need to sit in the patio or just take-out.
Food is still ok, although portions are smaller than prior covid. A few items from the menu seem to always be missing. In the past, they had more beverage and dessert options.
Parking in the area is not easy but that’s expected considering it’s Boul...
Read moreThe service and the place are nice, and I am fully aware of the fact that it can be busy around lunch time, especially when a restaurant is understaffed. I was ready to wait for half an hour, but after 40 minutes, I got an arepa with meat, while I ordered a vegetarian one. After another 20 minutes, I finally received my order — the size of it was a lot smaller than the one with meat, and the price was pretty much the same. Don’t get me wrong, it was tasty, but it was quite small and at that point, after an hour, it was very underwhelming. I also got a juice, and my total bill was around $20, which I found excessive. I have worked in restaurants and been to restaurants where my order got messed up — it happens, I get that. But paying $20 for a tiny arepa and a juice after waiting for 1 hour was definitely not an experience I would recommend. In similar situations, any reputable restaurant tries to make it up for the error. The staff was nice, and I’m grateful I lived to eat another day, but I won’t be recommending this place. I don’t enjoy leaving bad reviews, but hopefully this might improve the situation for the...
