L'étoile de l'Océan / fine cuisine Portugaise — Restaurant in Montreal

For appetizers I shared the calamari with my brother and they were perfect. Not greasy at all and very tender. The clam chowder which was very flavourful and not too heavy. The same can be said about the seafood bisque. For the main, I had the cod. Very good. My only complaint was it was oily but that was due to the nature of the sauce. Everything on the plate tasted very good. My father had the sea bass and my mother the blackened cod. Both adored their meals and polished their plates.

Wait staff was very kind and polite and offered recommendations and help at every turn. They came often with water and to check up on us.

Atmosphere is great in this restaurant. The lighting is good, the place settings are nice, the decor is appropriate and tasteful. Tables are well spaced out and it is not too busy. One major plus is the chairs are very comfortable. More so than other restaurants I’ve been to.

Hands down, the best bang for your buck around.

With so many restaurants dropping their quality these days, including many of the classics on the Plateau, here's one which undeniably takes pride in what it does. You can hardly believe you're eating so well, for the price you're paying, especially when it comes to the lunch specials which are all under $20, including entree and dessert. Then again, you know the food is going to be good as soon as you see the regulars - a bunch of older Portuguese gentlemen from the neighborhood.

The decor is pleasant, albeit modest. The waiter is knowledgeable, kind, and ever so pleasant. Only thing is, you gotta like fish, as that's what constitutes most of the lunch specials.

Wife's fish was salty and mine had no taste. Appetizers were ok. Service: My wife went next door to buy dessert since the waiter never came back for the dessert order....lol

They had their heads down most of the time so they could not see people raising their hands.

This restaurant is serving Italian food with few portuguese food on the menu.

I miss the authentic portuguese food serverd in clay dishes.

To the owner: Please change it back to the way it was. You are slowly losing customers.
