Sushi Fresh — Restaurant in Ottawa

Horrible customer service!!! I came to the restaurant with my wife and our son on a Saturday evening, it was empty. We sat down, got the menus and started a conversation with the waiter and asked him if they can make their sushi combo all salmon. He said yes and told us the price, I looked at the menu and realized that if we go a la carte it's going to be the same. Out of curiosity I asked him what's the point of a combo if it's the same price as a la carte because usually when you buy a lot you get something for it. I was going to order after he would answer my questions but that question was the turning point. He asked us if we are travellers and said if we are looking for a cheap sushi place there are couple of them down the street, he started giving us directions. He told us that they have high quality products and if we are looking for something cheap that we should go somewhere else. It was quite rediculos. Basically he was saying that we don't have money and should go somewhere else that was awful. I was laughing. So we left the place. I used to be quite a loyal and regular customer, coming to dine in or ordering through uber, and back in the day this was easily the best sushi shop in Ottawa. However, lately they’ve been falling off quite a bit. The food doesn’t taste as great as it did in its prime and the sizes of the sushi pieces have shrunken drastically while the prices have risen. The last time I ordered through uber eats I ended up with salmonella poisoning that lasted me a week. Decided to try it again in person, I also have very recently started to wear a hijab and went into the shop for the first time wearing it. The friendly and excellent service that once greeted me back in the day was now gone. Honestly I don’t know if it was a coincidence or the staff were new and overwhelmed with a Saturday workflow, but the stark contrast between the handful amount of times I’ve been in, versus my visit today, the experience just left us disappointed enough that we felt the service didn’t deserve a tip. We hope to be back someday, but for the meantime we’ll be looking elsewhere for...

Sushi Fresh is an amazing spot for very fresh fish and other great Japanese and Korean foods for a fair price. I would recommend the salmon, mackerel and tuna sashimis, gyoza, wakame salad, California rolls and the sushi rice which were all very flavorful and had their own unique textures.

I ordered the Sashimi Bento box and miso soup online and picked it up in store for take out which was really easy and convinient.

The wakame salad had an amazing seasame and garlic flavor, both the the shrimp tempura and gyoza were perfectly crispy and seasoned very nicely. The sushi rice had a great sticky and plumpness to it and an incredible flavor that makes it stand out from any other. The California rolls were great and the fish roe had a nice crunch to it. The sashimi were all very fresh and very soft and nicely colored. The salmon and mackerel were the two most flavorful and enjoyable options followed by the tuna.
