I am not the kind to leave a bad review usually, and always give the benefit of doubt. But the experience at Circa 27 has left us with bad taste. My dear friend and I recently went for dinner at Circa 27, Hotel Saskatchewan, at the start of January 2024. We are more quiet types, so this was our way to welcome in 2024 instead of partying. We had made reservations for Wednesday late evening. When we arrived and were seated, we noticed that there were two servers that night and just four or five tables that had patrons and by the time our main course arrived, a group at another table had left. Once seated, we were never offered any water. Is that a trend now? This is the first time in Regina we experienced this. We ordered drinks, orange juice (because one of us doesn't drink) and something else. We ordered Salad ( that we shared) and our main course. Close to the end of our meal, I requested some water. It came after some time, and we noticed that the server just rinsed a glass under tap water and filled it with tap water and brought it to our table holding in her hand ( no tray!). The glass of water that she brought was still wet and dripping (with water) from outside and the water inside was completely hazy! I never drank that water. Later we ordered dessert and my friend also ordered tea. We ate our desserts and the server came to ask if we were ready to pay. She never brought the tea that my friend had ordered. It seemed the server had never bothered to bring a pen and notepad to write down any of our orders and relied simply on her (failing) memory. She brought the card machine and we paid (of course, she wasn't getting a good tip after all this) and my friend noticed that she just threw the restaurant bill and the credit card receipt on our table, never asking if we needed a receipt or bothering to be courteous enough to handover the receipt to me. This is the first time a server has thrown a receipt and bill on the table and just left. Now we feel that she really didn't deserve any tip. The whole experience of eating at Circa 27 was not what we had expected. We have been wondering whether this reflected the standard for such a restaurant. With the kind of patrons who likely frequent this place, it became clear that this was not the standard behaviour ( because such a behaviour if she did all the time with the other patrons, would be immediately complained about and taken care of). It didn't take us long to realize that she was specifically being mean to us. Her behaviour did not match the name or standard one expects for such a Marriott group hotel, and undermined the efforts of all other staff e.g. the chef who prepared our food that day. Also, we do not know if that is the dress code for staff at the Hotel, but do not wear black shirt and jeans there ( thank god we didn't), otherwise you will look like one of the servers at Circa 27. Sadly, whenever we will discuss this restaurant, we will talk about our visit there and this server and her behaviour towards us. Next time we decide to eat out or someone asks our recommendation - Circa 27 won't...
Read moreI decided to go to Circa 27 Lounge for a glass of wine on my Birthday. The service I received was perfect. Both Jody and Chantal are Rock Stars. They were friendly and answered any questions I may have had about my order. I ordered the 6 oz Santa Carolina Sauvignon Blanc as well as the Seasonal Soup which was a Roasted Squash with Corn. Both the wine and the soup were excellent. The only complaint I have is the entrance to the lounge. When I came into the Hotel and made my way to the lounge, I noticed that there were table and chairs situated where there was openings into the lounge and that left one spot where someone could access the lounge and that was at the far end closest to the dining room entrance. The lounge used to be open to the lobby and there was no separation between the 2 spaces. While I was sitting in the lounge, I felt a little closed in because it did not have the 'open concept' feel. Other than that,...
Read moreIt is a shame I can only give it 5 stars. Erin, the all-star bartender, is all you need. Not only she will tell you the right food to order from the menu, but she will also blow your mind with her cocktails. Feel free to come in and order your favourite drink, because Erin will nail it. But if you want a real experience, you need to leave it to the expert. Tell her what your favourite drink is and ask her to surprise you. The only guarantee I can give you is that your (former) favourite drink will be no match. Now, if you are not in the exploring mood, just ask her for the Circa 27 or the Perfect Boulevardier, otherwise let her guid your experience. Funny enough the drinks are quite reasonabily priced (12-14 bucks per) and trust me, you'll want a few...
Othe than that, the atmosphere is fantastic and classy, food is great....
