I don't usually write reviews.... We had to write our order on a greasy plastic folder with erasable marker. The 1st marker didn't work. I ordered E7 which was chicken wings on fried rice. The waitress was nice and said that the wings could be 1-5 for spice level. She said 2 was medium 🔥. I ordered 1 which was the least spicy. The chicken wings were done perfectly. However, the rice it sat on had a hot spicy level of at least 5. When I told the waitress that the rice was too spicy to eat, she went to cook (owner likely) to ask for some milder rice, the cook raised her voice, saying "SPICEY", loudly. The waitress returned and said, "that's how they make the rice." There was no offer of even a bowl of plain rice to dilute the spice. It wasn't the waitress's fault. She tried to rectify the problem and make the food edible. My husband's order of beef short ribs were mostly bone and what little meat there was, was tough. I usually tell others about a really good restaurant. I certainly won't recommend Quán Ngon to anyone. A $2 cup of plain rice would have gone a long way to satisfying the customer! And my tip to the young waitress who said she hadn't worked there very long would be to get a job somewhere else, where the owners appreciate their customers. If they don't appreciate their customers they likely won't appreciate their staff, either. The woman who took payment from my husband took a small amount off the bill because of the rice, but told my husband that wouldn't be the case next time. No fear, Quán Ngon, there won't be...
Read moreWanted to try something new for lunch, so I went to Quan Ngon Hamilton St. I ordered a Spicy Beef Noodle Soup ($14.95) and an Oh So Mango! bubble tea ($7.95).
I want to start off with being appreciative of the extremely welcoming staff and the cleanliness. I could smell very faintly the bleach on the table, but this assures me they take cleaning very seriously.
I’m very happy to say that my food was delicious. You can choose a spice level from 1 to 5, I chose 1. It was enough spice to add flavour without being over powering. The soup consisted of beef brisket, shank, pork cakes, egg plant, thick noodles and lemon grass beef broth. It was topped with lime, bean sprouts, cilantro and green onion. The flavours just went together extremely well and the size of the noodle soup you get is a great value for your money.
Not to mention, I ordered and got my food within less than 10 minutes.
The bubble tea is easily some of the best in the city. It isn’t just a powder mix like some places, they use real mango purée. Also, they don’t just add honied boba, they also add mango jelly AND real whipped cream. Great, refreshing treat. It was a perfect way to end my lunch.
I’m absolutely blown away by how welcoming and inviting the staff were. They seemed happy to be there and happy to have you there.
I can’t wait to return again. This is a great spot for lunch down town. It allows you to go for lunch, have lunch and get back to work in under an hour. All the while, the experience as a whole was...
Read moreBuyer beware. We ordered 5 grilled beef short rib spring roll vermicelli bowls. One of the bowls had a very small amount of meat on the bone; the others had mostly just bones placed directly on top of the vermicelli. The bones were cut so thinly they created a serious choking hazard — we found small bone shards throughout the dish while eating. It was not enjoyable at all.
I called the restaurant and was told they use this method to keep costs down because they can't offer better quality meat. They even admitted that other customers have called with the same complaint.
If that’s the case, this item should not be sold as-is. Either improve the quality of the meat or rename the dish to reflect what’s actually being served. Right now, it’s misleading and potentially unsafe.
I reviewed other comments and I’m sad to say that after so many negative comments about this dish the still haven’t...
