We went here for my birthday as the reviews looked good and we are not from Revelstoke so we don’t know any better. I did make a reservation earlier in the week and noted it was my birthday.
We were seated and after a minor wait our server asked if we have any menu questions and if we wanted drinks.
The menu has good choices. For appetizers my wife had the soup of the day which was a seafood chowder. There was lots of salmon but my wife found a bone which happens but creeps my wife out. I had the salad of the day which was mixed greens with beets and pears and it was very good.
For mains I had the 112 Lamb (roasted lamb lollipops) with roasted potatoes. My wife had the seafood linguini. The lamb itself was excellent. The mushroom sauce that it came with was so salty I could eat it or anything it touched. I don’t mean like “a little salty”, I mean a reduction that had been ultra reduced with extra salt.
My wife’s linguini was uneatable. It was supposed to be in a white cream sauce but it only tasted of lemon with no cream in sight. When I say tasted like lemon… she asked me to try a piece of seafood and I could taste the lemon before it got close to my mouth.
Bottom line is the drinks and appetizers were very good but the mains were disappointing.
We let the server know we were not impressed and she was very apologetic and asked if we wanted anything else. We declined and she asked if we wanted the pasta for our dog but we didn’t want to do that to him (she asked in a sweet way).
When the bill came she still charged us for the uneaten pasta ($36) but did give us a 25% discount ($28) so I did pay $8 for pasta we couldn’t eat.
Now remember this was my birthday, but there was no offer of any complimentary desert or a after dinner cocktail. I get that maybe that is not policy but it might have helped after our mains were not good.
The service from our server was good, the mains were horrible and then I still had to pay $8 for my wife’s main which she couldn’t eat.
It was a very disappointing birthday meal overall. I know from other reviews that the management will apologize and hope that we give them another chance but I don’t think we will.
I think you take your chances a bit this this place. I read hot and cold reviews on the food and the service but you never know until you really try eating there. It was busy when we went. Lots of others where having the lamb and maybe my wife and I just got unlucky. I can’t complain too much about the server other than she did discount the overall meal but it didn’t cover my wife’s main and we didn’t get any attention from any manger (although we didn’t ask to see a manager).
This is our experience and decide for yourself if you want to eat...
Read moreMy partner made a 5:30 dinner reservation here to celebrate my birthday. We arrived a bit early and waited just a few minutes for the restaurant to open. Once we were seated, the hostess immediately mentioned that they were busy and that we would need to be finished by 7:00 PM due to another reservation. While I understand the need to turn tables, I couldn’t help but notice that no other guests seemed to receive the same message, which felt a bit off-putting.
Our server was fairly prompt in bringing water and taking our drink orders, but while we waited, she spent time engaging with the table next to us—taking their drink orders, explaining the specials, and chatting—while we sat without the same attention. Meanwhile, I watched another employee sitting by the bar using his laptop and picking his nose for several minutes, which was not exactly the best first impression. When our server finally returned with our drinks, she didn’t mention the specials until I asked.
For our meal, we ordered the winter salad, a filet mignon (medium rare), and a ribeye (medium rare). The salad arrived quickly but was disappointingly bland, with a vinaigrette that lacked any noticeable flavor. When our steaks finally arrived, the filet mignon was clearly overcooked—closer to medium or even medium well. I mentioned this to the server, and she responded that this was their version of medium rare. Unfortunately, it was the toughest filet I’ve ever had, which is especially disappointing at a steakhouse. When I pointed out how overcooked it was, she told me it would take 25 minutes to get another one. Given that we had been told we needed to be finished by 7 PM, I decided against a replacement and did my best to eat what I could. My partner shared his ribeye, which was at least closer to a true medium. Unfortunately, the sides were equally underwhelming—the roasted potatoes lacked flavor, and the vegetables weren’t worth eating.
When our server returned, my partner gave some feedback about the overcooked steak. She said she would let the kitchen know and then brought us the bill, applying a small 10% discount ($12 CAD) for the issue. While it was a gesture of acknowledgment, it didn’t make up for the lackluster experience. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking a fine dining experience—especially if you expect a steakhouse to be able to properly...
Read moreWas really excited to visit this place, reserved for our party of 4 a week out, it being the Sunday of family day weekend. We called to push our reservation later after an extended day in the pass. Very helpful and friendly on the phone. No problem at all 👍. On arrival, great vibe. A more formal and more casual side of the restaurant, a few high tables and bar seats. We had a great round table by the window, low light was fixed up with extra candles. Our server was an absolute gem. A couple of gents were playing live music at the perfect "sit down" restaurant volume.
An Espresso Martini was enjoyed, table setting was classy, bread with oil & vinegar, asked for butter and got it. Nice wine - all very promising. Sadly when the mains came excitement evaporated. x2 Salmon sent back, over-cooked. My 12oz New York was the most disappointing piece of meat I've had in years. Mostly over cooked, some decent meat left in the middle, no flavour. A dribble of red wine jus. Hunger, food waste guilt and both fish dishes beening sent away kept me from returning my dish. A decision I mostly regret. A "roast" potatoe needs to have seen enough oven time to become roasted, else it's just a boring dry boiled potatoe with no sauce. Green veg was good.
Fish dishes returned, sadly still average pub grade at best. Now translucent rather than opaque but still no freshness, no signature texture, there's a reasonable chance it was infact rainbow trout served as Salmon. No sauce.
Vegan portabella mushroom dish was served without the cashew cream..?
There comes a point when you just want to enjoy the special occasion with friends you've been looking forward too rather than complain about the shortfalls of the kitchen. Honestly it didn't add up, everything pointed towards an excellent meal but it failed miserably on delivery. I hope we were just really unlucky.
As I ate my mint chocolate and paid my un-altered bill, it struck me. The packaged chocolate was the most enjoyable part...
