Been here a few times and had a great experience, but of late the experience I had was enough to warrant this bad review. The food was excellent and it generally offers good portions, a good selection of food and drink and great frontline wait staff who are relatable and amicable! As a local guide, I would like you to understand that when I write a review, I aim to be impartial and inform people of the experience they may expect to receive at a given establishment.
Our most recent experience at this establishment has left a very bad taste such that we will not be visiting again.
We (6 of us) came for food and drinks on a Wednesday night, coincidentally locals karaoke night, and were sat on a long table with the hopes that some friends would join us. We ordered a selection of food and drink which was great and very tasty. However as the pub began to fill with locals who were keen to get involved in the drinking and karaoke scene, it became very busy. Not a problem as we were also moderately drinking and having a good time, but not so much as to be drunk - we were merely there to have dinner and a couple of drinks. Contrasted to the locals whose aim is seemingly to get drunk and party!
All good though we were having a good time until the pub was getting shoulder-to-shoulder busy. In this commotion, a punter dropped an empty can of Olé (a premix drink) on our table. No big deal as many people were doing this with their glasses after finishing their drinks, we thought nothing of it given the bustling atmosphere. However, as the bar manager Jay walked past he noticed the can did not belong to the pubs stock and immediately and rudely accused my girlfriend of having sneaked the drink in, claiming to have seen her "taking the can out of her pocket". Upon denying this, he accused her of being a liar and was speaking extremely rudely to her. We had racked up a tab of over $250 in food and drink and a simple chat with our table's server could have avoided this commotion - why would we need to sneak in drinks when we were ordering jugs of beer and other mixers? We were with friends who we hadnt seen in years and were attempting to show them how great Revelstoke is. Alas, we were confronted very heavily by this bar manager who was adamant we had brought in drinks illegally and threatened to kick my girlfriend out. Upon learning that he was talking appallingly to my girlfriend, I intervened and asked what the problem was. He stated that he had seen my girlfriend sneak drinks in and take it out of her pocket, and was going to throw her out. Naturally I said he had no right to speak to her like that and call her a liar and I stated "I dont give a f* what you think, you do not speak to my girlfriend like that". We had not snuck drinks in but were being falsely accused by Jay. He then called security to kick us both out as I was swearing at him for calling my girlfriend a liar. Okay I admit, swearing is not the best way to resolve conflict. However we are truthful in the sense that we did not sneak drinks in and this guy was clearly looking to start something whilst we were trying to have a nice dinner. We look young, I get it. Our table has an average age of around 28, more than the 21 year old punters there for karaoke and who were actually sneaking drinks in.
The way we were treated was appalling and it is not acceptable for the MANAGER of this establishment to treat paying, legitimate, customers like this. Just because we looked young this manager came down hard on us for no reason and had my girlfriend crying for hours because of the way he spoke to her, causing us to leave prematurely. It was rude, insensitive and frankly disgusting.
Edit after Jay's response:
I cannot BELIEVE this guy is doubling down to call us a liar. Instead of apologising, he says "consequences will follow" for sneaking in drinks - WHICH WE DID NOT DO. I urge you to check CCTV footage if you are so adamant my girlfriend snuck in drinks. Guilty until proven innocent with this guy - glad he's not a...
Read moreWe went to the River City Pub for lunch on July 27th, 2022 and arrived at around 12:10 - 12:15. We were standing at reception for a few minutes before a server came over and told us to seat ourselves. Might be good to put a sign upfront letting patrons know to do so. We were given menus soon after. We noticed that the other tables were given glasses and a pitcher of water, which we never received. We had an awful experience with our server. We ordered drinks (one of which was a club soda with lime) which took 15 minutes to arrive at our table after ordering. Our server acknowledged that there was a lemon wedge on the club soda and told us to switch it for the lime wedge off of a Pepsi we ordered. We ordered our food (3 burgers and a salad) which didn’t show up for over an hour after ordering (we’ll come back to this). We sat at our table for about 45 minutes and our server never came to check on us. We observed other patrons around the restaurant and noticed someone from one group had to go to the bar and ask for menus and someone from another table went to the bar to order a drink. She went and chatted up the people who had to get her own menus, smiling and laughing to maybe salvage her tip from that table. After 45 minutes she came back and asked if we wanted refills. We asked for two drinks refilled (both pop) and she didn’t come back for twenty minutes. When she finally brought us our refills, we asked if our food would be here soon. She smiled and replied “I don’t know, hopefully. I’ll go check.” We knew our food was ready because we watched it sit in the window by the kitchen for almost half an hour before it was served to us. We heard the chef’s ring the bell when it was ready too. We heard them ring the bell several times and no food was ever picked up and brought to tables. The restaurant wasn’t even busy either, only about 7 other tables not including us. She brought our last plate over and picked up on the fact that we weren’t happy. That’s when she finally asked if everyone was okay. We just asked for the bill and take-out containers, which she came back with quickly as well as with the machine (but not the containers). We told her that we would pay in cash when we were ready. The take-out containers never came. Our server never came back to our table after that. We barely ate any of our food as it was cold from not being served to us on time and all of us just wanted to leave as we had been there for more than an hour and a half, only 10 of which were spent eating. On our way out, our server tried to stop us and when the first group of two walked past her without saying anything, she stood in front of the other two of us and said “K bye.” with an incredibly rude attitude. We will certainly not be eating at the River City Pub again. We had planned to have dinner at the 112 that night but it was closed, but we will not go there either after our experience at this place. If anyone goes here and gets a blonde, Australian waitress, leave and find somewhere better to eat. She is incredibly rude, has a terrible attitude, and is only friendly when she needs to salvage a tip from a table. One she knew that she wasn’t...
Read moreWas traveling to Calgary so I stopped here to watch canucks and take a break from 10hr drive.
I was seated promptly but the only seat was bad angle to the big screen tv. Waitress then asked about food/drinks and i asked for a couple minutes I WAS JUST SEATED. I ordered the special for that day, fish & chips (2 pieces of cod plus fries). Waited a while for it. Normal, its a canucks gameday. Then prior to it coming, i went to the washroom to freshen up. When i come back, food has not arrived. Been like 20mins at this point. And i see my cup of water and utensils are taken away. THEY THOUGHT I LEFT THE TABLE AND LEFT. Why??? I told you I was driving for 5 hours. Waitress returns and apologizes. And brought everything back. 5 minutes later the waitress returns and apologizes again saying that a big order was submitted into the kitchen just before my fish&chips were. 10 minutes later, the food comes. I am alcohol-free. And just drink water. I ask for a jug. But before this, i waited 5 minutes for my waitress or any waitress/waiter to swing by my table. Nobody came. I had to get up and ask a different waiter for a jug of water. Insult to injury, it took 5 more minutes to come. And he looking at my empty glass just dropped off the jug instead of filling it for me.
Honestly, shocked of the service in this pub and its linked with Regent hotel? Yikes. 2/5 stars cause food and...
