Do not go here if you are not a resident. You will not be served. Stance is hypocritical to the max.
Meanwhile, other businesses in Revelstoke have been thanking me for my business, you are sending me away.
I will say this has not been my experience elsewhere in town. Hotels want your business as do other bars and cafes. Safe practices are in full effect at most places and this particular instance has been a total outlier in this otherwise fantastic town.
Edit since the bars response:
First of all your initial response is unreasonable and you have changed it 3x times now. Your first one was insulting, comparing me to an American tv commentator?
Also you are not being truthful: in subsequent responses to others you state: “for the first few weeks in May we didn’t allow non-locals in” or words to that effect. Incorrect. I was there first week or so in June and here’s what I saw:
Multiple (3-5) people on top of one another in the smoking area
Not a single mask in sight
No social distancing at tables with gaggles of people on top of one another like it’s 2019.
Signage posted out front saying locals only
Inquisition by the bartender asking about where people reside.
Admit it, you got caught and called out for ridiculous/hypocritical behavior and are trying to hide behind “health guidelines”. Which “health guidelines” in BC are you referring to that specifically say you are not to serve non- locals? Who made you judge of who’s allowed to enter town?
There’s a REASON the local newspaper put a picture of YOUR locals only sign in their article that came out June 11th. This restaurant is the ONLY establishment that I could find evidence of doing this in all of BC. You’re either open and safe for everyone or you’re not.
And it is hypocritical when your clients 100% are overheard talking about biking in Whistler or Squamish etc and are in your bar. Zero difference than someone outside of town so long as YOU and THEY follow proper protocols mandated by the BC government which I wonder if you were actually following in the first week or so of June that you were open to only locals. 🤔
You tell a great story tho, all sorts of virtue signaling.
This photo (of the locals only sign) was taken first or second week of June. Way, way past May.
Sept update: the owner has copy pasted some non-sensical gibberish about being in a group (he did the same thing to other reviews as well..), seems to be the de facto response. Ummm..I was by myself? It is definitely interesting how much of an issue you seem to have communicating with patrons over something every other bar in BC seems to have figured out and is able to do without much fuss.
Long and short of it is that this business is trying to enforce its own interpretation of recommendations the BC government has laid out, resulting in an often unpleasant and surprising interaction if you don’t know what...
Read moreI went to the Bierhaus Tuesday night with some friends after given some good recommendations. We were told to pick a seat by a friendly woman however the girl that ended up serving us seemed to want nothing to do with us. We asked for a drink menu and she rudely told us to go up and look at the impossibly small writing on the menu at the bar. Debating over the options while leaning over people seated at the bar was extremely awkward.
She brought us a bottle of water later on and essentially tossed it on the table and turned away quickly, not even bothering to fill our glasses. A few minutes after she brought our food, she asked how everything was, but again, turned around very quickly and walked away before any of us had a chance to answer. About a minute later she returned with our bills telling us she was done for the night. We have all worked in restaurants so we know most servers see their last table out before they go, but maybe she had arrangements to leave at that exact time. That wasn't the issue, what happened next was. We're halfway through our meal, trying to share and enjoy it when she comes up with the machine for us to pay. We all were pretty appalled as it was very rude to interrupt a meal in this way. Not only was the act rude but so was her tone and mannerisms(I think we maybe saw half a smile all night). We were not ready, had to scramble for our cards and felt pretty rushed after the whole ordeal. Needless to say, we barely tipped.
I must add however that our food was delicious aside from some undercooked risotto. I'm sure this place has great potential, however better service...
Read moreThe restaurant was completely empty and we were turned away because we are from Alberta. I don’t think this is even legal to turn people away based on their address. Either you are open or your not. Its over priced anyways and the mac and cheese isn’t very good which is their signature. We came for a charcuterie but wont be coming back. Or on second thought maybe we were turned away because my friend is black..... hope not but these small towns.
No one asked if we were essential travel.
First of all what kind of business owner tries to defame a person for leaving a review. Don’t have a business if you can’t handle feed back when you are violating human rights. We came to your restaurant wearing our masks and followed the rules. My friend was born and raised in Revelstoke and I work 250 days a year in BC, I am only trying to give back to the economy that also supports me to have a Brand new Denali 3500 which is not jacked up, it is stock height! And the trailer is only 22ft and is not a toy hauler. I would not expect a liberal to understand though. Thanks for stereotyping / profiling me and my friends as We walked to your door. After a talking to other locals in town you are known as the local creep and every one of them said they wont support you either. Good luck serving 2...
