Update*
Since I have such wonderful experience by Kun at Christmas. I decided to try out other food at the restaurant.
I ordered the uni ikura don, the uni taste bitter, so I call and ask.
They told me because it is season end so the uni taste bitter and it is normal. They told me next time I should have requested them to taste the uni, if it is bitter, then they will cancel the order. OR, I should have ordered uni-sobe, because it is made by Hokkaido uni and the taste will be more consistent. Therefore, refund will not issue.
I understand but it is not acceptable.
As an Omakase high-end sushi bar, I will expect they serve fresh sashimi. If they know it is season end for the local uni, they should have stop serving it to customers. OR, give a heads up to the customers about the bitterness and suggest customer to order the uni-sobe.
A responsible sushi restaurant like sushi hachi, they told me that uni is not in season and wont be taste good, so they will not serve to customer.
Because of this experience, I will NOT come back again.
Got the Christmas platter from them! Absolutely delicious! A bit pricy but I think it worth! Highly recommended and definitely will come...
Read moreHands down one of the best sushi restaurants in the lower mainland. Went with my mother and grandmother who are both japanese and we were stunned by the quality. I’ve seen a lot of comments here that the nigiris are so small and not worth, but for us, we enjoyed how the rice was small and the piece of fish was average size! We don’t like to eat sushi packed with so much rice becausecause it’s too filling and usually ruins the whole experience eating the sushi. The rice they use for the sushi is very good quality and i think that’s what sets the nigiri rather than just the fish itself. Prices were very reasonable. Highest price nigiri was the Otoro, at $8.00 but the other pieces were all around $4-5 super good! The otoro literally melts in your mouth and the maguro nigiris are a MUST! I was sad they didn’t have uni in today but i hope they have it next time i visit. I found the Saba and salmon oshi exactly the same or even better than what they serve at Miku/ Minami. Gomae was a good starter. Overall 10/10 experience, service is excellent. Highly highly suggest this place and make sure to call ahead for reservations since seating is...
Read moreCame here with very high expectation.
The sashimi are very fresh, but I do expect it to be as good as what I got at this price level. The Japanese Uni sobe is definitely the best one I had in this year(ordered the same type of Hokkaido uni in multiple famous Japanese restaurants in the area with a similar price this year, but this one is still the best).
Other than this, the oshi sushi and the chirashi tart are exactly the same dishes with Miku. Unfortunately, I preferred Miku’s oshi sushi(much better sushi rice) and Miku’s chirashi tart(more creamy) over this.
Overall, its taste deserves this price range, but it doesn’t exceed my expectation. I gave it 3-star probably because I’m expecting too much before I came here since I had some amazing experience with other famous Japanese restaurants this year, but Kun’s omakase bar doesn’t really meet my expectation(I would give a better rating if I came here without going to other places).
Service is truly amazing.
Have seen online that special omakase is not available now. Will come here again in the future for omakase with even a higher expectation than today...
