Was definitely an odd experience, the place looked cozy and quite. But definitely unwelcoming and rude from the start. The waitress was disappointed to take my order and seemed like she didn’t like me from the start, couldn’t give me time to just check the menu or bother giving me some time. The food was decent, well I ordered a basic breakfast and it was ok, nothing special in anyway. Worst out of all was, none of them were giving me any eye contact. Literally sat there for 20min to eat. The waitress comes up and puts the bill in the table, didn’t ask me if I wanted anything else, I had to ask for a refill of water. Mind you, me and my friend was the only customer there. When we went to pay, the lady will only look at me friend, who is a white dude. When we were leaving she only said bye to my friend and literally ignored my existence. Not trying to pull the racist card here, but definitely felt something at this place, never had such an uncomfortable meal before, hence thought about...

Stopped in here in a Thursday morning for breakfast and so glad we did! It’s a small hole in the wall but what a gem! This is a classic city diner! The sugar pourer and mismatched salt and pepper shakers are so nostalgic and typical of a small diner. The open kitchen is legit!! We sat at the counter (there were no empty seats, a great sign)! The server was super nice and attentive! I ordered the cheese omelet and home fries with rye toast. I asked for the home fries to be well done but that was not really in the cards since the flat top grill was constantly in use and the home fries are legit potatoes with no oil so they’d have to cook for so long! The cook explained it to me after and i appreciated that he doesn’t add anything to them. The omelet was good, exactly what you’d hope for at a diner. My mom loved her BEC on rye! The coffee is ground fresh on site and was good. The prices are reasonable and you can really feel the love...

I have been coming to this diner since I moved to the city in 2018, and it is consistently delicious.

Service is always quick and attentive - no matter how busy they are. For some people the staff may come across as 'rude' or 'curt' but it is more so their personality style. They are not trying to be your friends, they are trying to provide you efficient service. I would wager it is among the best service of any restaurant in Toronto and many establishments can learn from the staff here how to run a meal service properly.

Food is always good. I normally come just for the breakfast and get their steak and eggs (for $20.99 which is a STEAL), which is always cooked to perfection. Portions are huge, and their dishes are the best priced meals in the entire city.

Truthfully, you cannot go wrong with this place. It's homey, comfort food that's always...

Avenue Open Kitchen is a gem of a diner, exuding charm and warmth from the moment you step inside. From the inviting ambiance to the friendly staff, every visit feels like coming home. The menu boasts a delightful array of breakfast classics, but it's the eggs and bacon that steal the show every time. Cooked to perfection, each bite is a symphony of flavor that leaves you craving more. What truly sets this establishment apart is not just the exceptional food, but also the impeccable service. The staff goes above and beyond to ensure every guest feels welcomed and cared for. With its unbeatable combination of incredible food, top-notch service, and cozy vibe, Avenue Open Kitchen never fails to exceed expectations. A five-star experience that keeps me coming back for more.
