401 Richmond Building — Local services in Toronto

Went here on a whim as suggested by a lovely art person and subsequently spent hours (like, close to four) looking at all the cool stuff I could get my eyes on. The building itself is a gorgeous old brick thing, restored or in the process thereof, and there are so many studio and exhibition spaces and friendly folks working. The Spacing shop is here as well as another cool little one adjacent. I cannot wait to come back when I am in Toronto again and maybe hopefully do a workshop or two in one of the studios. So...

Visited this Art Gallery during the White Night on October 1st where there were presenting in their little garden “music video clips” from the 50s and 60s, a type of vintage YouTube, using the original film technology. Spent there over an hour. It was like going back in time. Of course, I visited the rest of the gallery. The art in conjunction with the architecture of the building has a distinctive spirit. When I heard of this place, it sounded incredible. When I visited on a recent Saturday, I found a couple of interesting exhibits, a nice coffee bar (not in the price range of starving artists), and mostly closed and locked spaces.
