EDIT: OMG they added the vanilla london fog to the menu :D I love how they're so quick to add/update their menu. Since the previous review, I've been almost weekly. I finally got around to trying the daifuku, which is 110% amazing. I got a cold london fog with tapioca, which was cooked much better and not as hard as previous.
PREVIOUS REVIEW:
I know the big draw is that they're open late, but for me personally, I love the fact that they're open early. Most bubble tea places open around noon so it's nice to be able to grab a cup before heading to work.
I've been here 3 times so far. The first time I got the cold rose pink rose medley with tapioca. The drink is definitely more on the herbal/floral side rather than fruity/sweet (like Kung Fu Tea's rose milk tea). It's a really nice flavour, though the tapioca was on the harder side. Not sure if I went at the wrong time and it wasn't a fresh batch, but I definitely prefer softer tapioca, like at Kung Fu or Tiger Sugar.
The second time I got a hot cream of earl gray - no complaints and would order again. I also LOVE one of their current holiday promo drinks, the vanilla London fog. Please add it to the main menu!
Lastly, one of my favourite things is they offer soy milk as an alternative without charging you extra like at other places. They also get bonus points for playing the Spirited Away...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI'm currently in my study date era, which means getting lots of little coffees and treats around the six. Lait Night is a classic spot for students -- I even heard a group practicing language learning at the next table. The place is so popular and not huge, so I have sometimes been out of luck with finding an empty table, especially during exam season. Tastefully decorated, Lait Night does not have a huge variety of desserts but does boast an array of specialized teas such as roasted corn and hÅjicha. My takeaway from my experiences here is that the coffee jelly is underrated!! There has been much ado about the dango, but in my opinion, the overly sweet, syrupy sauce on top can be grainy, and the flavours are not strong enough to compensate for the bland chewiness of the dumplings. I've given the dango a try several times (matcha and red bean flavours), and it is certainly not my favourite. On the other hand, I would order the coffee jelly again and again: the fresh, plentiful whipped cream and melt-in-your-mouth, delicate jelly are a match made by blessed hands. Also, the small amount of caffeine in the jelly could be a boost for enhanced studying capacity! The roasted corn tea is unique, but it may taste better as a latte. There is a small television above the display case that plays anime on mute - a fun touch. The washrooms...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreEDIT 2: I have since spoken to the owner and the swift response and addressed issues speaks tremendous volumes. Thank you Lait Night!
EDIT: since the owner's response, I called in today at 5:03pm to place an order for 14 daifukus to pick up (as recommended by the owner). However, the employee on the phone told me that it can only be ordered online, however there isn't even an option for me to order it online. She also told me to order it on the website but again, there isn't an option to order it. The employee told me that I can only do walk-in and that I can't order over the phone in advance. So what exactly am I supposed to do? I go in person and get told different limits and when I try to call, they can't do something that the owner says I can do. Extremely disappointed and frustrated.
I love their daifuku so much i drive all the way from Scarborough for it. Unfortunately, staff is not consistent with what the limit is. Last time I came in, I was told the limit was 6 daifukus per person. My boyfriend came at a separate occasion and was told the same thing. When I went tonight, the employee (asian with glasses and dyed blonde/silver hair) told me the limit was 4. Quite disappointed at the inconsistency of service but the food is always amazing. Would love to come back for more but never know what the new limit someone will...
